Sounds GREAT with 9V Duracell, but strong signal only lasts about 1 to 1.5 hours. I want to avoid extra equipment, and I like Ovation preamp. Has anyone found or developed a workaround, fix, or is there a replacement preamp that will give me phantom power, or use of AC adapter? RickNPHX

Thanks, RickNPHX. Edited by RickNPhx 2021-05-01 1:51 AM

Thanks, RickNPHX. Here's a link to the subject,no phantom power Is your tuner staying on all the time that seems like really fast battery drain http://ovationfanclub.com/megabbs/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=31005

As you can see in my signature, I have almost all my old Ovations upgrated to the OP Pro .... preamps series and in this time period you could get all these parts in the music shops or from Mothership. You could get two different XLR output units, with, and without Phantompower. Which were installed in higher end guitars with the OP-Pro preamp. Without in guitars with the OP pro Studio and VIP preamp. For my upgrades I always ordered them with Phantompower. So what happend. While looking for the best sound and swapping the preamps working with Phantompower, I put in a VIP with batterie inside. After a few seconds there was a hum thats getting louder and louder and then it was absolutely quiet and the Vip starts smoking.... and that was the last thing it has done!!!! I think ( but I'm not shure, because I don't want to try it out) that that will not happen with guitars which can not provide Phantompower on the XLR. But dont't use a Studio or VIP with XLRwith Phantopmpower and connected Phantom power!!!! It will destroy your preamp. Bernie

ONLY as a preamp and also NOT with Pantompower. There was something special with the Idea but it's long ago, I don't remember what, right now. If anybode want to try out whether his / her XLR provides Phantompower or not, you can only check this with an OP Pro, It is the only one which works with Phantompower. And.... if you have not a battery inside, the tuner will not work..... Bernie
