I was just at the Ovation website and realized that the only 12 fret Ovation ever built as a Collectors was the 97. I can't help but think that the FD14 would have made a great collectors guitar.

In looking thru the Collector's guitars, about half were really interesting and half, I saw no reason to build or buy.

Paul - TERRIBLE idea about making the FD14 a collector. One of the coolest things about the FD14 is that they are so friggin rare and the OFC members have latched onto this model. 20% of the FD14s sold in the US reside with OFC members. Name one other commercially available model where that's true. Don't ruin the collectability for the rest of us by suggesting they should have built 1000 of them!

The 2006 Collector should be a contour bowl tenor ukulele with adamas top and single cateye soundhole. Kim, Willy, Darren - do you hear me ???

Just received my FD14 from Jim.

What an INCREDIBLE SOUNDING GUITAR!

Dave, I can see why you consistently place this guitar as your favorite. It just lives to be played. I consider myself very fortunate to have lucked into owing this one.

Question tho....I have seen several members who list the FD14 in their signature section along with a serial number. Mine has like 5 digits, then the USA, then 4 digits on the neck. Where are they coming up with these 2 digit numbers? Wishful thinking???

The 4 digits should be seperated by a slash "/". For example I think mine is 33/50 meanin git's number 33 out of the 50 that were made. The "/" may be hard to see if it falls on the dark part of the wood (mine is like this).

I'm glad you like the guitar and further confirm what a genious Witko was when he bought the first one sight unseen, dispite everyone else asking WTFIT? All things considered, probably my favorite guitar.

Dave

Gotcha...the slash was on the dark part. 43/50

Thanks for the info.

yeah, it's more collector than most collector ... more limited than most limited edition.

i wish i had bought one 1-2 yrs ago when a dealer listed a pair on ebay twice at $699 each, without reserve. not a single bid. they were 48/50 & 50/50. who are the lucky ones & have these two now?

A wise saying that can be applied to both people and guitar makers ...

The most significant difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.

I think like Dave, and now Stephen that FD14 is the best sounding ovation guitar I ever heard. Mine is 37/50 and it's fantastic, and I'm very happy to own one of these... :)
