It's a '95 (s/n 497645) with the OP-X preamp, and it appears to be in really good shape. Original case.

The guy wants $650 for it. Good deal? Is it rare?

Sounds like a decent deal to me especially since it comes with a case. Not rare at all, they still make this model i believe with either the LX or Non Lx Configuration. The maple triangle fretboard inlays wre replaced With Abolone.
They do pop up on ebay occasionally. But I can't remember what the last one i saw went for. If you really like it and it speaks to you . Then take the plunge. I bet it sounds sweet!

I believe it retailed for about $1500

Blue book says excellent condition is $775-900.

We all know that O's are greatly undervalued.

Have you played it? Is it calling your name?

As I understand it the opx 1768's were the latest models before they were discontinued; if it's mint and has the original case, and sounds good to your ear (and if I had the extra cash) I would seriously consider it...there are other members of the club who have that particular model, perhaps they will offer their thoughts as well..

I actually think this particular model was discontinued in '99 or 2000.

Isn't this the model that was fancied up and became the "BOOK ELITE"?

It's a fair market price for the guitar. It's a real fine instrument. If you like it, buy it. You're not getting ripped off.

I currently have three 1768's (don't ask me why!). Two of mine have spruce tops and the third I just found out has a cedar top. I like the cedar top one the best, but the other two sound great as well. Mine were less expensive than this one, but then again, mine are older and are probably in not as good shape. If this thing is in good shape, that's a fair price. And its got a sweet, sweet sound!

FWIW, I paid $650 for my own Elite, but it's an 1868 (it did come with OHSC and was in truly mint condition...no wear or marks on it anywhere). It is the guitar that I keep next to my favorite chair in the family room, so it gets played every day/night. I wouldn't sell it, but I would consider trading it for that Century Al has. ;)

I was under the impression that the model number changed to 1778 which is a mid-depth Elite that Ovation only offers as a 3 month special order. The Elite for $650 is a good deal if it's in really good shape. at least I would pay it. I always thought the Maple Fretboard inlays on that model had a great look.
