Has anyone tried out the new G-DEC amp Fender has just put out? Looks like a cool little practice amp with "a band in a box" type features. I heard that it is "voiced" for drums, bass, piano, as well as guitar so it is not GREAT as an electric guitar amp but has nice sound considering it had to be developed for the other effects. I am wondering how our acoustic/electric Ovations would sound through it?

Earlier this week I went to GC to look at the G-DEC but they did not have any.

I did plug a nice Fender Tele into the new Princeton 650. Sounded very cool and the effects weren't bad.

I talked to a guy on the Fender forum yesterday and asked him to plug in an acoustic/electric to see how it sounded behind some of the presets. He said that a few of them sound quit nice. I found that MF just shipped mine yesterday so I'll have one in a couple days to try first hand with an Ovation. It looks like a pretty cool little "gadget" for the electrics for sure, but I hope to get a bit of fun out of it with the acoustics as well.

My son called to tell me my G-DEC amp just arrived in the mail so I ran home for lunch to play with it for a minute or two... An hour later I looked ant the clock - Holly C#@P I've fallen into a "time hole" and have o get back to work!!! This this is addictive to say the least. I'll do a full review later but first impressions are these:
It's a fun, cool toy/tool. By this I mean it will be great for practiceing with some drums and bass but it is NOT anything you would gig with.
I only checked out a few of the presets in the limited time I was playing with it. My Strat sounds just fine though it although on some of the presets the guitar just gets "washed out". I heard that on other forums but was also told that with a little "tweeking" that is taken care of. My biggest couriosity was how an Ovation would be played through it. I plugged in my new 2005 collectors and was happily surprized at the sound. With the volume at 50% there was no feedback (I thought there would be). Some of the presets just will not work with an acoustic (heavy distortion) but some sounded very nice. The Chicago Blues sounds very nice, the "ladies man" (whatever the hell that means) was quite nice, and the Reggae Wa believe or not had a cool sound to it. I will get back on it when I get home and try to give a more usable review then.
Take Care,
