These were done live, so they are not too polished, but it's only a demo to get bar gigs, so we didn't want to go crazy with it. |

Location: Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey | Thanks Dave! That's nice to hear. It's nice working with Kim because she can sing anything and we have very similar taste in music, so finding material is easy. I played as a solo act for several years, but this is a lot more fun. Having another singer also allows me to concentrate more on the guitar. She also makes me do more rock material, which is a change of pace from my "folkie" stuff. |

I love singing his stuff. Currently we do "Love The One You're With", "Southern Cross", "Helplessly Hoping", "Wooden Ships", and my personal favorite, "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes". |

Location: SE Michigan | Nice tracks John. I also took a look at your song list on your web site. Looks like a lot of good material. I have a question though, for you and other performers on this site; do you have all of these songs committed to memory? Or do you use a song book?
My friend Brad and I are working up a set list and maybe I'm just getting a little old and soft in the head, but once you start to get up a decent list of songs, remembering all of them becomes a problem. Just curious how you manage it. |

Location: Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey | I have the chords to most songs memorized, but I do bring a lyric book out on gigs. Normally, I only need the first line or two from a verse and the old light bulb goes on and I remember the rest. I try not to look at the book too much though. |

Location: south east Michigan | BrianT and myself thought a songbook would be taboo until we seen it done. Now John says he uses one. I would imagine it would be something that is used less and less as you get more experience. Kinda like training wheels. We are concidering doing something in large print and keep it at about knee level. Just a little insurance against a possible brain fart. |

Location: Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey | Like I said, My book is more of a crutch than anything else. I'll glance down at it from time to time. Right now, I'm trying to learn a whack of new songs for Kim to sing, so there are times when we start working on a tune one week and play it out the next. One thing that I like to do is to keep the stand as low as it will go (as Brad said) so I have to make an effort to look at it. If it's right in my face, it's too easy to cheat. Another issue that comes up is when someone requests something that you haven't played in a long time. It's handy to have a little help.
Hey, I saw Geddy lee from Rush using a teleprompter. If it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me.

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | As for the sound quality of the demoes; that S771 is a mid-bowl?! Has a very nice bottom to it. Maybe those preamps do help out. Thanks for sharing, John!
Regarding memory encoding & retrieval, it's real sensitive to "Age & Gravity" factors. Hell, the notes don't even sound the same, in some cases, and then you can't hear the rest, anyway!! |

Yes it is. The pre-amp does work well, but this guitar sounds great even unplugged. The acoustic sound is even better than my Legend LX. |

Location: Massachusetts | Someone else here has an S771? Mines a 2000. A fantastic fat oiled v neck...my favorite guitar neck of any guitar I have owned.
I was wondering why the guitar sounded so familiar in the clips..it's my guitar.
