I am recording tracks for a new method book to be released later this year with my Ovation Custom Balladeer 8162 with FET 3 preamp. I did about 15 tracks before I noticed the bridge has become microphonic. I'm getting a low frequency "bump" each time my hand touches the bridge and it goes on hard disc with an unpleasant sound. The only way around it to not touch the top. I've played Ovations for years and never had a problem with this until now. Any ideas? Can the Ovation bridge pickup actually go bad the way a traditional pickup can? Thanks in advance.

Perhaps related...I found that if my fingers brush the textured top of the EliteT, the vibration is transferred to the pick-up.

My brother had that perticular problem with his Ovation Anniversary (1978?). I'll ask him what he did to cure it.

Check the ground wire under the saddle... The old pin piezo pickups check the post that the wires attach to.. It may be loose??? May cause wierd feedback or hummmmmmssssss.. If loose or broken you may solder it yourself... Rick weldon had this problem and that was it.. It can turn the pickup into a microphone sometimes. If it is not the pickup it may be over hot electronics. It happens changing shims a lot

BTW, I wrote the numbers wrong- it's a model 1862 with the FET 3 preamp.
