Location: Phoenix AZ | Depends what you want it for. High marks for comfort, playability, plugged in, durable. Would make a good gigging classical. If you desire a "real" classical guitar (I'll get myself in trouble here) this ain't it. All I mean is that this does not have the traditional tone, projection, dimensions, etc. of what most classical players desire (like I should know, right?). I would defer to Playadamas to Serge to comment on this as they have lots of experience in this area. But basically Ovations is not "known" for their classical guitars and probably for good reason. | if u really wanted to have a nylon string ovation, go for deep bowl model. the bass of my 1763 is AWESOME!!! |

Location: Cicero, NY | Same here with my 1616. Bottom end is warm, mids are solid and not tinny at all and the nylon highs stay warm and full. If you're looking for a true classical sound, go deep bowl. |

Location: SoCal | Dave, guess that is why they call it a "Classic".
For a nylon string guitar (rather than a classical, flamingo, etc.), the Ovation nylon strings are great guitars...between the CA and the Classic, difference in neck width, etc. Personally, I like the 1763 deep bowl.
Don't believe it was designed to compete with Spanish hand made classicals.
After a long day, it helps me relax. |

Location: SoCal | I like the feel of the EA63 I picked up, but I do not want to leave it out downstairs.
At least an O with a SS bowl would have more sound than the EA63 unplugged. |

Location: SoCal | Noah, I think this would be a good guitar for you. It's not going to sell for a whole lot of money, and I think you'd find the supershallow bowl to be very comfortable. Decent upplugged sound, very good plugged in sound.
The other alternative is to spend money on the new Ovation nylon string with the mid depth bowl. Very nice compramise, but would probably run about $1200 or so street price. |

I was eyeballing that one myself. I have 1763. I have played the 1863. Plugged in they are hard to tell apart. Tony's right, It's not a 2lb flamenco job, but if you put the right strings on it (Savarez red card 520P1's, you can get VERY aggresive with it (way more than a "normal" guitar) and it will will sound nice, but not that much louder than your EA63. |

Location: So. Cal. | If you just want to pick it up and noodle on it, it may be fine. I find the Ovation nylons a bit short in projection. You need to use HT (high tension) strings to bring out the articulation. I love my deep bowl (non-cutaway) CA and Adamas nylon, but they really pale next to my concert classical. I think you can pick up the deep bowl CA in good condition for quite a bit less money too. |

Any comments on the 1863 Classic...
