Is the 1612 a Balladeer or a legend? According to ovation's archives its a custom balladeer. I've seen a few 1612s on ebay though, and they have an OPP and stripes on the neck. The archive picture of the 1612 has a regular undersaddle pickup and no stripes.

Anybody know what the story is with these?

1612 is a Custom Balladeer with the Preamp package. It would depend on the Year of manufacture to call on the many changes made in construction.

Woodrow's correct. Probably built in the late 70's to early 80's. After the switch to the blue label, after the switch (to save costs) to the 2 piece neck, but before the switch to newer preamp.
