After buying a new Ck057 purple number for my wife (stunningly beautiful)I am Gassing pretty bad for a new Ovation. But I have a perfectly good Applause AA21 deep bowl that sounds really good. Honest. So heres my question. Can the Ovation electronics be cut into the Applause? This could save me a lot of money as the Ovations I would consider are the elite T or perhaps the 2005 collectors. I know its "just" an Applause but to be honest I love that little guitar. More than my Martin for some some odd reason. Don't get me wrong my Martin is a fantastic guitar and yes it is a "better" guitar than the Applause but I really love the little Applause. Maybe I'm a sick man but that's just the way it is. It sounds wonderful and the bass is good with the deep bowl. What do the experts here think? Is it possible to electrify the old Applause? Or should I just the hell with with it and spend the money for another ?And what do you think the results would be? Thanks for your advice - Mykall

A thinline pickup would be the easiest to install. Dave

Mykall, I too have an old Applause that I really like. But I wouldn't spend the money to install a pickup in yours. I'd just go for something that already has built-in electronics, maybe a clean used older Ovation deep-bowl with electronics.

If you really are willing to spend the kind of money that would buy a 2005 Collectors', I'd just go get a 1769 Al DiMeola Custom Legend. You will be ecstatically happy with it. Until recently, it was the only production deep-bowl Ovation, and they sound WONDERFUL. Another possiblity would be one of the deep-bowl Traditional models that have just entered production, the 1711 Balladeer, 1717 Legend or 1719 Custom Legend.
