I've only seen them at £529.Brand new with u.s vintage pickups and a 'v' neck like claptons. The korean ones retail in sound control with duncan pickups for £399. Also got a pink paisley strat with ST vintage pickups for £475. Not worth for the playability but for that crazy look. That'll go in the permanent collection.

The MIJ finishes tend to be more prone to chipping. But there is a wide disparity in price, and the USA guitars are bringing a high price. Some of them, however, are heavy and don't sound better because of it. I have played numerous sweet Fenders from Japan, but their liabilities keep up with their assets. In my opinion, the 'myth' of Fender Japan superiority has been largely propagated by sellers of MIJ Fenders who seek to justify the inflated prices they are asking.

They sold them as CIJ the last couple years before the move to Mexico. But then again, I just might have the only really nice one and all the others are crap...

Never actually owned an American version but I just can't imagine it could be any better. Go for it Randy

The guy i bought it off assures me that the tele is better than any american one but i'll wait and see. i get it in 2weeksish-jpn-london then me. i'll compare it against a u.s one and see if he had just made it all up. This guy works with with Charlie Chandler, 'Charlie Chandlers Guitar Experience' in London. Works with the biggest names in the business, so i'm holding some faith in him and for the price i got it for, £26 more than a Korean one it can't be worse, and with those pickups...i hope. Keep yee all posted. i'll check out those fender forums aswell. Thanks.

So basically their bullshit should be taken with a very large pinch of salt. For a short while, in the early 80's/ Schultz takeover, Jap Fenders were arguably better than US production. (in fact for a while there was no US production and they needed the jap guitars to keep the company alive) Those days are long gone, not that there's anything special about current US-built Fender guitars. The biggest laugh is the "Custom Shop" where you can spend thousands to have a handcrafted replica of something that back in the day was literally thrown together by unskilled labour. And if you're really dumb you can pay even more for them to beat it up so it looks old. Is it just me, or am I missing something?

If those mean something... buy the USA one. Actually, if I wanted another tele right now, I'd probably get a Highway 1 model. Satin finish (poly), but all the rest is pretty much top shelf.

Well if worst comes to worst and the jpn tele is too heavy, a whiny twang and just an insult to tele's then i'll send it back. You don't have to spend anywhere near a $1000 or £900 or whatever to get a good one. I been playing a no. of tele's recently, mexican, korean and u.s made and i have to say i found the u.s tele's too heavy. The korean tele was just to heavily laquered althought the neck was a nice 'c' shape with just the right amount of speed on it. i did find the fretboard of the u.s the best to play. Only got this jpn one left to play.can you still get CIJ fenders cause their supposidly equal if not better than u.s ones;were they only created in the 80's? All i've been able to find is MIJ

Best deal I ever got on a guitar. Then, like a dummy, I sold it for $250.00 to a friend of a close friend who had no money but wanted that guitar real bad......... What a sucker Randy
