Hey guys. This is my first post and thought I would introduce myself.

I just purchased a Celebrity Deluxe CC48 (Transparent Blue). I am 50 years old and have not played since I was in high school. I recently retired and have some time on my hands and want to start playing again. I really can't wait to get started but the guitar is a Christmas gift so I have to wait a couple of more weeks. I sure have been tempted to open that box though.

This is not my first Ovation. My parents bought me a brand new Balladeer when I was a teenager which must have been a 73 or 74 model. I stopped playing when I got into college and after graduating, I took up golf which I still play at least once a week. I held on to that Balladeer until the early 90's and practically gave it away :( . I can still hear the great tone from that Balladeer. My first accoustic was a new Gibson B-25. I have also had several electrics along the way, Gibson Les Paul Recording, Fender Coronado II and a USA Fender Telecaster.

The reason I decided on the CC48 is because of the love I had for that Balladeer and the price was in my budget. Also, I think it is a beautiful guitar. I also was concerned about getting something that will be easy on my fingers since I have not played in over 30 years. Once I get comfortable with it and my fingures toughen up a little, I plan to take some lessons.

Sorry for the long post but I look forward to being a member here and gaining a lot of valuable information.

I would appreciate any comments on the CC48. Things I should look out for, care and maintenance etc.

Thanks,

Corey

Welcome....
You'll sure learn a lot about Ovations here.

That's great that you are picking up guitar again. And I think you fall right about into the upper middle of the median age bracket around here.

Guitars are lighter than a bag of golf clubs.
And you can still play when it Rains.

Welcome...

Welcome!

My only comments about your guitar are to play the heck out of it. If you get an opportunity to join any of the gatherings, local or otherwise, go for it and you'll get to see and play a whole bunch of nice instruments.

Welcome! A lot of us came back to guitar after a long layoff. You'll be surprised how quickly it comes back. I started taking lessons again earlier this year and I'm loving it. Stick around, this is a great group.

Howdy, hi! You got a real nice guitar to start back with. The only recommendation I have is to keep a polish cloth handy and wipe down the guitar (especially the neck, strings and fingerboard) after each play. That'll keep gunk from building up and it will also extend your string life a bit.

Welcome. Retiring at 50 was another goal I missed, then 55, maybe 60. Anyway, browse through old posts and learn to use the search function to answer most questions. There's a ton of good information already discussed. If you have questions concerning lessons, check back for references for online lessons. I haven't ever taken lessons, so I couldn't help you there. Most would say that it shows.

BTW remember to practice. If we all practiced 15 minutes for every post we'd be virtuosi. I sure ain't one and so I preach!
