hey schroeder, 'slow train' had to get the attention of die-hard dylan fans, make 'em think about things; as for the rest, they were just lookin' for a reason to trash him anyway...

Yesterday it was Jim Croce and Roy Orbison. Must be something about dead guys.

I have listened to McLaughlin and Carlton for decades, and they are apples and oranges guitar players in my opinion. Few guitarists can match John's chops and command of the fretboard. But few can match Larry's taste and tone. I can play most of what Larry Carlton can play, but a) it doesn't sound as good, and b) I never would have thought of the phrasing much of the time.

I don't think LC is one of the greatest guitarists in general, but I find him one of the most enjoyable -- for my taste.

Today, I've gone through:
Rusted Root, "When I Woke"...Springsteen, "Ghost of Tom Jode"...
a random selection of Violent Femmes (gotta luv the Femmes) and a smattering of Bill Morrissey (yes, I said BILL).

The comment about the DVD "Meeting Of the Spirits" was in regards of John McLaughlin playing with Paco de Lucia and Larry Coryell, not Larry Carlton.

Carlton is great, no doubt about it.

And I have seen Coryell play very nice and tasteful stuff, but on that particular concert, he was "under something" and his playing really suffered.

Blind Lemon Parker ;)

I heard that the ride on "Green Earings" was voted as one of the best guitar rides ever. Larry Carlton, at his best. Check it out.

Great tune. That whole album is amazing! The beginning of Kid Charlemagne has an awesome solo too.

I had the pleasure of seeing Steely Dan on the last 2 tours. The most recent, they started out with Aaja, and played the rest of the album. Kid Charlemagne, wow. Hey, bring back the Boston rag...
Great recordings for guitarist.
Tommy

Have been working out a pretty cool song list and to add to the array of 70's & 80's rock classics, including some Yes, that no one and I mean no one plays anymore.........

I have been going through the LED Zepplin 4 CD set I just bought! Looks Like "No Quarter" & "Ten Year's Gone", two of my favorites!, are on the list! These I can sing great. Bob was easy on the high notes for these songs.

Also after 2 or 3 from Peter Gabriels "SO" album
and I would like to pull off "Back In New York City" and/or "Lilly White Lillith" From early Genesis! "The Lamb Lies Down" !!!!!!! Great stuff here. Been going over and over these CD's last few weeks. Having a complete blast with this older Rock! Great, Great, stuff that is becoming forgotten Music! I have a feeling we will have so much fun playing this stuff people will feel it we will get a name and do quite well with this old stuff!
Nooooobody else plays this stuff! And none of us are in this band for the money so it's perfect!
