I travel a ton on business and love to bring a guitar along. I have had a few travel guitars over time (baby Taylor, Martin LXM, Larrivee parlor, and a trekker), but all left a little to be desired. Of course a small acoustic guitar can't boom with the big boys. Based on it's construction, the trekker is the most durable of them all by far. I had one in the past, but sold it and just bought another, only to be (slightly) disappointed by the fact in doesn't have electronics in it anymore. I paid the same for the new one as the one a few years ago, so to have a pickup installed in this new one, the total cost (guitar + retrofit OP30) will be $550. This got me to thinking.
I would love to see a USA Ovation Trekker made. Think of it, 3/4 size, LX features (new bowl, neck, solid top, scalloped bracing, inlayed epaulets, OP-30 or Pro, nice finishes). Think of a 6778LX in 3/4 size. Priced at about $700 street price.
I love Ovations and am a huge fan. I would love to travel through the airport and have folks ask me what I'm carrying (I ask everyone with a guitar case what's inside), and be able to reply "Ovation, wanna see?" and pull out a nice sample of what Ovation has to offer. Then get where I am going and have a great, durable guitar to enjoy. Thoughts?

I bought a Trekker for my son a few years back ... I believe it was a CS212. Made in Korea. Mid-depth bowl, 3/4 size, OP-24+ preamp, Celebrity Deluxe appointments. It was really nice for what it was. If it had a 5 piece neck and a solid top, it would have been awesome. But I don't know how many people would actually spend the kind of money they'd have to charge to tool up the USA factory to make them.

I would rather see a Parlor size than a Trekker size issued.
I have a 1/2 sized Applause that is a good traveller but it just isn't enough for a jam session.
Opens up some interesting possibilities though!

zchord,

I would be all over that. A small sized, upgraded, USA made Ovation would be so cool. It could also serve as the "take outside" guitar. I am not afraid to take my Ovations outside, and with the warmer weather we have just had here in the Midwest, they WERE outside. But they are at risk when I take them out (lots little kids), and a smaller instrument is easier for me to look after. Right now, I have a low grade Ibanez acoustic for backyard duty. How about a contour LX 1/2 or 3/4 size 6 and 12 string model??????
