Location: Upper Left USA | I recently acquired a Preacher Deluxe from Flea-bay and the electronics were none functioning. After unsoldering the obviously broken switches and receiving replacements from Customer Service (Thanks Guys!) I reinstalled the said switches.
Krackle, Pop, B-r-r-r-r-r-r-z-z-z-z-z, SKWA-A-A-A-A-A-A-W-K!!! !#$@^$%&#$#!!
I am not an Electrician!
I have the parts, two schematics - actually for the Breadwinner Deacon active circuitry, which should be the same thing.
Help!
Any Circuit Solder Junkies out there that can troubleshoot 30 year old transistors and what-have-yous? |

| Check all the little black transisters with the 2 or 3 gold pins coming out. One good shock and they are kaputski. Very sensitive. |

Location: Midland, MI | Or you could just replace the transistors with these from Mouser. They're a whopping $0.09 each. Double check the specs, though, before you order. |

The movie was "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory".
Now Tim Burton's remade it with Johnny Depp. Not sure that was neccessary. Gene Wilder was perfect in that role. |

1) The two circled contacts in the corner are the switch for the battery. Short them together and see if the noise goes away.
2) The other two circled contacts on the side of the board are the ones used for the level equalization for the tone circuit. If #1 above doesn't help, short those together and see if the noise goes away. |

Response: The air sound disappears. silence.
2) The other two circled contacts on the side of the board are the ones used for the level equalization for the tone circuit. If #1 above doesn't help, short those together and see if the noise goes away.
Response: This causes a lot of noise. Any time I get my finger or a tool near this areas it makes noise. Contact with the lead to the pot closest to the corner (yellow), or the post, causes a loud noise.
I also noted the Mauve circle area on mine has those four leads soldered together while yours look separated.

Location: San Bernardino, California | 1) Sounds like you've got a dirty switch in the jack.
2) Try touching the two side contacts again with the tone control turn all the way bass. In that configuration You should have the same response on both pads. If you don't the tone control is probably bad.
The mauve (MAUVE!) section IS soldered together. Just has some resin on it.
Also: an easy way to check if the pickups are putting anything out is to tap them with a screw driver. |

Location: Upper Left USA | Touching the side contacts makes noise in all positions of the Tone Pot, (even changes tone).
I get no string sound from the pickups. With my finger on the board I get PU snap by tapping the PU. Without touching the board there is no snap.
I will see what I can do about the jack.

Location: Las Cruces, NM | I, like Jeff W, have become totally engulfed in this mystery, even though I have no solution to offer. My '66 Fender Mustang has a mild case of the same disease, maybe this will provide a cure or at least an excuse when it makes wierd sounds. I wish I could learn from this and cure some of MY weird sounds. |
