Location: East Tennessee | My son,(who is in his 30's) wants to learn how to play guitar. He lives in Florida and the local Sam Ash store is having a blowout sale on Applause's. I've never really looked at any since I tend to stick to the USA Ovations and have an Elite and a Celebrity. He wants my advice. I'm not sure what to tell him since I've not played one.
Is there a difference between identical models?
Should he play more than one?
Will they hold up over time?
He is on a limited budget since His wife is expecting in Oct.
Thanks for any help. :) |

Location: East Tennessee | I just did.
I've been looking at a few Balladeer's on ebay.
I also seen several Celebrity's on ebay which I might reccomend if the bid stays low, but would feel more confident with USA models.
I want to buy the guitar for him so I may bid on a decent one and have it shipped to him as a Fathers Day gift. Then tell the wife I need another one. :D :D |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I just bought a Balladeer for $225 with the case off this board. You just missed it. It will be my first solid spruce top Ovation. The main criticism I have with my Applause 12 string is not with the sound. I think it sounds great. The electronics are too basic--just a tone and volume control. I would like a little more bass on a 12 string, but the Applause just won't do it.
My Matrix was bottom of the Ovation line at the time and we scrimped to buy it for our wedding in 1977. It still projects a great sound, but is a bit more metallic, perhaps because of the aluminum fretboard. Still very easy to play, though. |
