I've been admiring the ebony tuners that I see on some of the Ovations. They're beautiful. Why on earth didn't Ovation put these on the 1778 EliteT's? My Sicilian Grandfather showed me the beauty of this wood long ago and I'm very fond of it. If he were alive today, he would definitely handcraft me some tuner buttons and make them fit to perfection.

Would the screw holes on these ebony tuners match up to those that are on my 1778 EliteT?

Does anyone have a nice set that I could purchase for my guitar if it's a match?

Thanks all... :)

all you need to change are the buttons.
the elite T is a low end guitar the buttons cost extra.

Do you have a set? Low end guitar with a high end boom, it deserves a little upgrade. ;)

LeStrange, if you can hold tight for a few weeks I'll have some ebony tuners available for M6 mini's. What kind of tuners are on your ET? Dave

Ovation...gun metal. I don't know the size. How do I find out what size they are if you need that info? I had a look at the Schallers and they don't look to be mini's, they're bigger. And Thank you, Dave.

I think you have full sized Schallers. I'm pretty sure the buttons will fit, but might need shorter screws. You may want to check the schaller or stewmac websites for exact dimensions. Or maybe someone else here knows more detail. Dave

I was looking at the Stewmac website (I upgraded my 30 yr. old Ampeg Heavy Stud bridge, exact dimensions as the Fender Tele, from these guys with great results) and having a close look, figured I had the full sizers. Al says I just need to change the buttons so I guess I'll give Stewmac a call and confirm the size. It's going to make this guitar complete! Can't wait. :D

Do you have a phone number? I'm trying to find out which model Schaller tuners are on the 1997 Collectors model. I just purchased one on ebay and a couple of the knobs are cracked so I'm planning on replacing them all, appears they were tightened down too much creating excessive stress. I emailed Ovation but have not gotten and answer yet. Might be quicker to call.

Stewmac's catalog says to use the smaller knobs for the M-6 tuners.

If they call you ask which model Schaller tuners were used on the 1997 Collectors and post.

Thanks

Hey Gospel Guitar Guy...the buttons on your '97 are PLASTIC. If you remove a button, you'll see there is a brass sleeve inside. It's hex-shaped on the outside, and fits over the tuner post on the inside. There is almost no material to the button where that sleeve is and, as a result, the buttons crack over time. StewMac has Schaller mini ebony buttons and they fit perfectly since they were made for this tuner. Do I sound like I've had experience with this? All the tuner buttons were cracked on my '97 when I got it. John <>{

the way I understand it, the '97 Collectors came with a "plastic" (your term) and then replaced with a set of the ebony buttons.

the guitar in question was probably not upgraded.

I do believe the factory has some sets.

frankly, I have the pearloid on mine that look great.

Thanks bauerhillboy! You think I should order the small knobs? If you have a catalog # just add it to this post. I've taken the broken one off and have applied super glue. If that does work........... DUCT TAPE!!! :D

I used to buy golf shirts from that mail order clothing outfit. Are they still around?

John from Ovation just returned my call, Mike.

He has your tuners in Ebony but as Tony Calman stated above, your guitar did in fact come with acrylic knobs. He wants you to call him at 1-860-379-7575 Ext.# 120 to order them! Hurray for you!

He doesn't have ebony knobs to fit my tuners and I don't want to change the entire set of tuners just to have ebony knobs. He DID confirm my opinion about the 1778 EliteT by telling me that the EliteT is one of the BEST sounding guitars that Ovation has ever produced. I certainly didn't have a hard time making my decision in which Ovation to purchase because this guitar simply BOOMS and has astounding clarity to boot! I had cash left over to put toward a Roland VGA-7 and make my gig complete!
Good luck with your 1997 Collectors, Mike and post some pics for us to see!
