Location: lewisburg ohio | I have a custom balladeer 1712 some guys say there really isnt much diiference in what strings you use they are all about the same. others swear by a certan brand I have tried quite a few well it seems like the martin sp sound best on mine with dadarios a close second ghs sounded the worst any other strings in your opinions that might be better than martins for my balladeer? I have also found .012 .054 sound the best as far as gauges go I dont know what the factory puts on it stock thanks |

Location: Rocky River, Ohio | hi there....ovation uses exp coated daddario phosphore bronze lights as their stock strings, but even rick hall admitted he liked the adamas 1818 lights better. many guitar makers are putting coated strings as factory equipment on their guitars in case a model sits in the music store for a few months before purchase. this way the prespective buyer won't get stuck with dead strings that might turn away a potential purchase..
personally, my favorite sounding strings, that in my opinion, will sound better and last longer than the martin is the john pearse 80/20 bronze...these strings made all of my ovations sound wonderful. i convinced many friends to change to these strings...
i must confess that i still use elixirs on some of my guitars simply because i've accumulated quite a few guitars...and if you only play them once a month or so, i'd rather have coated strings on them..
try the pearse 80/20's and let me know what you think....i bet you'll love them..

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | I personally use D'Addario EXP Phosphor Bronze for most of my guitars. I did see that Gibson puts John Pearse 80/20 Bronze on their guitars from the factory rather than their own brand. What does this tell you?????

Location: Orlando, Florida | I use GHS Bright Bronze BB30L (12/54). Their a 80/20 copper-zinc alloy. Even though I really like the sound of my new Elite T with the EXP16s, I will probably stick with the GHS strings on the rest of my guitars. They sound absolutely great on my Ovations, as well as on my Gibson. The way I would describe their sound is bright and articulate. They also seem to keep their sound the longest. I would also recommend their "Fast Fret" string/fretboard cleaner as well.

Location: Detroit area | I've been an O owner since '99 and have never used anything but the Adamas 1818E's, or maybe the 1717E's on occasion. A buddy talked me into trying some Elixir's, but I took them off after about 3 strums. |

Location: Hicksville, NY | Try the D'addario EXP line of strings. During those times when I CAN afford it, I use EXP 13 (11-52). Right now, I think, they're having a special offer on them by "taking the EXP challenge." If you like them, D'addario will send you a free set of the exact one you just purchased, or refund your money if you're unsatisfied with it. I look at it as simply having two sets for the price of one, and was quite happy when I received my extra set in the mail within a week after I made my purchase. I think the offer goes up until the end of December of this year. There was a previous post about this thread ... that's how I responded to it, but somehow I can't seem to remember or find it ... :(
Otherwise I settle for the cheaper, but just as effective Martin SP phosphor bronze strings. Unfortunately, the M strings don't last as long though. |

Location: Orange County, California | D'addario is part of Kaman. Guess who makes the Adamas strings? I believe they are very similar to the EJ series, except for some difference in string guages within a set. I like the 1818's quite allot. |
