Are the pre-amps on the current Ovations interchangeable? In other words, would an OP-Pro Pre-amp, that usually comes with the "1968 Original Patented Pickup" work with the "Ovation Thinline" pickup? With this thought in mind, would the pre-amp on the Elite 1778T (an OP-30) work on a 6778 LX, which comes stock with the '68 original pickup and the OP-Pro? Would the OP-Pro pre-amp work in the 1778T? Are the pre-amps of the same model, such as the OP-30, exactly the same between the US models and the Korean models? Has anyone ever tried (or at least wondered about) what I'm suggesting?
Joe

I believe the "can" for the OP PRO is different from the can for the OP-10 thru 50. Furthermore, the OP-50 isn't interchangable with the "lesser" OP-10 thru 40. SO...I don't think the OP 30 preamp will fit in the can of the 6778LX. Functionally, it seems to me that the OP-30 and the OP Pro are the same. They have the same features in different looking packages. Next step would be the OP-40 which has a notch filter. Interesting note: I have the 6778LX and was initially bothered that it had no notch (which I'm used to having), but I have had NO feedback problems at all. When I had my Custom Legend 12 with Optima, I relied HEAVILY on the notch filter. I wonder what that's all about? John <>{

My understanding is that OP Studio Pro will be on high-end 2006 models and it will be backwards compatible to guitars that currently have OP Pro. Of course I could be totally wrong. Dave

It's a common complaint that the OP Pro doesn't have the volume of the other preamps. The studio version will be a lot hotter. We were also told it will have another "whistle" which couldn't be disclosed at that time. Maybe a notch filter??

"Maybe a notch filter??"

....or maybe a tube (eg. Takamine Cool Tube which sounds very good) or perhaps an input for another pickup or maybe another pickup.

"Studio Pro" seems to say microphone to me or at least some way of capturing an "unplugged" sound while plugged in (eg. Fishman Aura type technology).

....but I've been wrong before

I guess this is something I need to call the factory about. I just wanted to know if trying this would cause any problems with the electronics (short circuits, burnouts, etc). The real questions is if the pickups are wired the same. Also, are the OP30s on the Korean models the same ones used on the US models?
Thanks;
Joe

I'm sure they're the same...all the preamps are made overseas. The Korean guitars aren't getting American-made electronics; it's the American-made Ovations that are getting foreign-made electronics.

Does anyone know what this "whistle" is yet, or when the Studio is coming out?
