Good evening all,

I'm torn between the Mid and Shallow bodies. The shallow feels a little better on the lap, but the mid sounds soo much better... any suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all in advance

Mike

Both are good. It depends on how you will be using the guitar.

If mostly plugged in then the shallow bowl wil be OK.

If mostly Acoustic and not plugged in, then the deeper the bowl the better the sound. The deeper bowl will also sound great plugged in.

It is what you want and not what what others may say that counts.

A better suggestion; Why not one of each? How about the new Contoured Bowl?

Oh no GAS..... :D Again.

I'll say it, also.....if mostly playing plugged in, the shallow bowl is fine. But if mostly playing UNplugged, it's gotta be a mid-bowl.

I won't say get both....it shouldn't be a hard decision based on the unplugged/plugged ratio.

Feels a little better vs. sounds much better.

Where's the problem? Seems like a simple choice to me.

I have a shallow bowl and I love it great pluged in and I find even unpluged it still has great tone and projection. I have also played a mid bowl pluged in both the same I think unpluged there is a small difference, at least to me.

I've got muppet length arms - the only thing missing is the metal control rods, and ping-pong balls for eyes - JK. I'll have to throw one on my lap again and see if the extra inch in depth is reachable for me...

One's really good looking but the other has a great personality. Been there ... tough choice.

Well Mr. Stormtrooper you committed the sin of using the O word in your post. I'm talking OPINION, not OVATION. You asked for an opinion, so like or not here it is ... I have never played a supershallow bowl that didn't sound like crap compared to a similar guitar with a deeper bowl. And I've played and owned plenty.

There are shallow bowls that sound really good and some sound better than some deep bowls. But that's comparing different models. Yes, a shallow Legend may sound better than a deep Elite T, I don't know. But I DO know that for a given model, the deeper bowl will sound better. I have owned at the same time shallow and deep Legends, shallow and deep Elites and shallow and deep Adamas. And in every case the shallow one, which was more comfortable to hold and better to gig with, sounded inferior to it's deep brother.

That's my opinion. Dave

I used to be a anti shallow bowl guy. I own 2 deep bowls, 3 mid-depth, and 1 shallow 1868T. True the bigger bowls are louder, but the 1868T has made me a beliver, in the merits of a shallow bowl. If you are playing plugged in, go with the shallow (the 1868T) kicks butt. It is truly the electric guitar players acoustic. For long gigs, it is comfortable to play, and reduces the stress in your right arm for strumming. But, the choice is yours.

I certainly asked for opinions... and all are appreciated, regardless of bias...

I'll throw a model in the air... let's say an Elite C868... and just to make it pretty... LX.

Yep, THAT'S pretty......

What struck me about watching someone play a plugged in shallow bowl in a guitar shop a while back....it had this vibe of a Gibson ES-335 or an Epiphone Casino. That changed my opinion on the shallow bowls. I don't want one myself, but I think they have their place.

I have a 1778T, 6778LX (both mid-depth bowls) and an 1868LX shallow bowl. I agree with Standingovation. LX for LX, the mid bowl sounds better acoustically than the shallow bowl, BUT the shallow LX sounds worlds deeper and richer than a shallow non-LX. I have both for the reasons mentioned above. The mid bowls sound deeper and richer (naturally) unplugged, but the difference goes away when you plug in. If I'm doing a 2 hour worship service plugged in, the shallow bowl wins every time. A one hour service plugged in, it is a toss up. Then I choose mostly on what I feel like that day - that gorgeous New England Burst 6778LX, or the best-guitar-deal-in-America 1778T, or the super-comfortable-to-play 1868LX. Unplugged, mid-bowl every time.

Well, after the advice, and a couple more trips to the guitar shops... I decided on the Super Shallow body - in the LX form...to be more precise a c868lx. It just felt better, and in terms of sonics - the mid-bowl was a little warmer, but I enjoyed the volume and accuracy of the super shallow. It should be in tomorrow, and if that's the case, I'll be giddy for the rest of the week...(at a minimum).

Now to find a Trace Elliot... I'm off on my next quest...

Cheers all, and thanks for the input.

Well, keep us posted when the new baby arrives and you've had a chance to stretch it out a little!
