Location: Earth·SolarSystem·LocalInterstellarCloud·Local Bub | Played one of these today. First time I've ever seen one in person. These are beautiful guitars. Inlaid mono-wood epaulets and tortoiseshell binding, great neck and this particular guitar had the most beautiful ebony fretboard I've ever seen.
Just a beautiful guitar.
It played well too. Didn't sound quite as rangey and open as the LX's...but it sounded good.
And other good news...The O's where hanging right underneath the Martins in the high end room....
the bad news...they didn't have an 05C. I was hoping to try out the contour bowl. |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Jeff, nice to hear that it played and sounded good. I remember the 2003 Collectors model was "blown out" very cheaply at the end of that model year, I remember many comments on here wondering why(and some saying it deserved it).
Wish you could check out my GC.....they have a 2005-ES, way up in the rafters so no one can touch it. Heaven forbid that anyone play a GOOD Ovation!!!!

I asked the clerk if he ever had any of the O5Cs, the answer was, "no, we missed the boat on those." |

The first one you mentioned (with the girl) is a Celebrity! Look at the last large picture, you'll see "Celebrity" in the soundhole.

| This model had more than a few threads going at different times. For me, the two I played (including the one I bought and returned) looked gorgeous, played good. Not really worth the hefty initial cost when it first came out. This model was really snake bitten when the elite lxs were coming out. It was the first model to have the inlaid eps., but this would later make it look like an expensive prototype of cheaper priced (and better equiped) lx models to come. My understanding is that sales stunk.
When the FRGs started coming out of the nooks and crannies of every internet dealer, the rumour started spreading that poor sales led to Ovation stamping FRG on normal, pristine models so that they could violate their own pricing policies and clear them out. Did we ever get the definitive word as to if this was being done? |

I hate to say it, but the 2003 is like the last production year of the Mustang II. It's a fine guitar, but ... |

But....yeah, the 1978 Mustang II was definitely an afterthought immediately preceding greatness(the 1979 Mustang, based on the 1978 Fairmont, the chassis/floorpan of which was only retired this year in favor of the 2005 model).
