Custom, looks a lot like the '06 Collectors.

"The case has some bubling from being in storage"?
I hope the guitar wasn't in it...

I believe a run of these was made specifically for Guitar Center and only sold there. The model number means KGC (Koa Guitar Center). There is a thread someplace in the vault on this but I'm too lazy to look for it. Dave

It was also a panelmeister --- not a solid koa top.

CAUTION!

Staring into Koa Wood can be downright mesmerizing and habit forming!

Well, it's pretty to look at but a Koa verneer is no better sound-wise than a yellow pine verneer (or the Koa Celebrity that's out now). I'd wait for the '06 Collector's. Haven't I heard, though, that Koa isn't really a great tonewood for tops?

Well, Sam...
...if I had seen the close ups yours or Miles' I coulda been correcter! Moody insisted his go the "right" way. He's sharper than he looks!

Actually since YOU put that one on I need to see what Miles has on the other Jim's guitar. I want to hear some first hand on why the two of them have the same grain of walnut - where there more in the family?

There's something about a koa topped acoustic and a Marshall half stack that's just right, ya know?

Koa is pretty, used to be the standard for "Hawiaan" steel guitars, Steel Guitars, it has never been a good acoustic wood for an acoustic guitar, the grain does not have the desired straightness like spruce, and tends to muffle the sound of an acoustic. The best Koa "steel" I ever saw was built by John Dopyro and had a resonator and a pickup built in so the Koa was mostly cosmetic, a feature that almost all recognize as it's greatest use. If you like it's looks, BUY, if you like acoustic sound, LOOK AROUND!!
