Location: Fort Worth, Texas | Tuesday night we had band rehearsal. No biggie, hurry home from work Tuesday, slam down some dinner, kiss the wife and kids and pet the dog, load up all my gear (we had a gig Saturday), head over to our rehearsal space, unload, wait for the drummer to show up :D , rehearse and discuss PA issues....
Between gigs I usually leave most of my gear in the rehearsal space, so after rehearsal I just grabbed my Legend and threw it into the floor board of the back seat. Go home, go to bed.
Next day have to be at work early, hurry off to work, busy all day teaching a class, hurry home and am TIRED. Eat dinner, read homework with first grader, go to bed....
Next day (today) hit the snooze a couple of times (today is the wife's birthday, so was concentrating on that, gave her the tickets to the upcoming U2 show, she's happy) and head off to work, arrive at work, throw some stuff into the back seat and realize, MY GUITAR IS STILL IN THE CAR!! :mad: :mad: :mad:
It sat in my car all day Wednesday and all night last night - here in North Texas we were on the midst of a late summer heat wave, set a record high Sunday, Wednesday I noticed the bank sign right over from work read 104° when I was leaving at 5:00!! Finally a cool front came through last night and the high today is going to be around 77°...
Well, I kinda freaked out!! Brought my guitar into the office. Let it climatize for awhile opened it up and IT'S OK!!!

Location: south east Michigan | Las Vegas....mid July...a record breaking 115 degrees. In the rush of valet parking I forgot my Trekker in the trunk. No hard shell case, just a gig bag. Closed up in the trunk from about 1 p.m. until the next day. No problems. I know a Trekker might not be as heat sensitive as a Legend, but it does say something about Ovations. |

Location: East Tennessee | Ovations can take the heat.
I still have a dent in my hardshell case from the pneumatic lift on the hatchback of my wife's old Honda when I used to lug so much gear I'd have to squeeze the guitar in last. The heat from the sun actually softened the case against the hot metal. Guitar was OK and if I remember correctly, the Guitar stayed in tune,(12 string).
So crank it up and play on. :) |

Location: SE Michigan | I used to take my first Ovation Legend and lean it against a wall (facing the wall), in those days I had no concept of a guitar stand. Well one time I leaned it against the wall right above a hot air duct from the furnace. In a short time the glue softened and the bridge pulled right off the top. Talk about STUPID!
I am thankful that the kind people at the factory were good enough to fix it free of charge. Now I have several stands and pay a lot more attention to how and where I leave my guitars. |

No wonder Jim Croce called his "Bullet-Proof" (and Airplane-Crash Proof!)...
Now, if we could only keep the five-piece necks from snappin' when they fall off the stage

The care and maintenance section off the official web site says: Do not leave your guitar in the trunk of your car! (That will kill your guitar and you will be very sad!) and the manual says:
Also, avoid storing the guitar in the trunk if a car, where it will be exposed to extremes of heat and cold. Always avoid freezing temperatures, as thsi can result in the top finish cracking. Again, fortunately worked out OK for me. Wasn't in the trunk, just the back seat!! But it withstood the heat!

Location: Central Florida | There was a time, about 12 years ago, when I lived in a very small room I was renting and out of necessity, my Legend LIVED in my trunk for nearly a year... In Miami (they don't call their NBA team the Heat for nothing)! :eek: I was playing electric almost all the time then, so the Legend was nestled out of the way, and I really didn't think about it much.
Long story short, when I finally retrieved it from the trunk some 9-10 months later, it was perfect, but I still vowed I'd never do that to a guitar again. It's amazing what those things will withstand! |

Location: Flushing, MI | Well speaking from experience, trunks are less likely to heat up as much as the inside of the car will, on a real hot day with the windows up. There's no windows to have a magnifying glass effect on the sun rays, and it can stay relatively cooler in there than inside the vehicle. I'm notorious for leaving guitars and amps in the trunk, but I'll still be careful if the temperature is too extreme (we're more worried about the cold here in Michigan). |

Location: Madison, Wisconsin | The cold is what got my Legend. I stoped for a drink after practive one night with temps below 0 if I remember right. Never took it out of the case till the next day and found a small 1" crack just below the bridge. It was only in the cold for an hour or so. Cars don't keep much heat in that kinf of weather and hard shell cases were never ment to keep their contents warm. |
