October is here.
The January NAMM is not that far off. Two years ago we were all a-buzz about the top secret LX project. A year ago we knew of a big change coming. That turned out to be the contour bowl.
It's kinda quiet out there. It looks like Al has nothing to torchure, oops, I mean tease us with.
So...lets indulge in some reckless and irresponsible speculation just to pass the time.
My first guess involves the pre-amp. Maybe they will introduce some kind of piezo/internal mic hybrid. That may sound kind of "out there", but Ovation has done some "out there" things recently.

I hope you're right about a new P/U. Ovation's may be the best Piezo P/U out there, but so what. Their ability to reproduce sound has been eclipsed by other products for some years now. someone at Ovation who we all know and love told me a couple of years ago that they were experimenting with new P/U's, but since then I've disconnected Ovation P/U's from 3 of my guitars and installed something else. That something else has been around for a few years now and sounds MUCH better. If they'd come out with a new product tomorrow, I'd buy it for my newly-acquired Pacemaker.

JMIS (Just My Irresponsible Speculation):

1. Contour bowl will make it down to Legend and Elite models

2. OP-SuperPro pre-amp

3. A collectors series guitar that will be some panelmastered Folklore

4. A limited edition wooden box guitar similar to a D-28, but with composite braces

How about a player guitar? Like the Yamaha pianos that play themselves. Just turn it on, and away it goes.

How's this for speculation,Ovation ditches the "Q" project and realizes that an all wood guitar is the way to go..Traditional rosewood back and sides!

New for 2008??? The "SAMADA" model

Do you have an Italian flag painted inside the guitar?

In a stunning move of incredible foresight and brilliance, Ovation cashes in on the return of the 80's and introduces their SeX line of guitars -- dedicated to "those who put the rawk in rock". All new guitars will feature supershallow bowls, the headstock and inlay design from the immensely successful 1989 Collectors series, and colors/designs copied from the exotic boots of a certain former employee. Dustin Hoffman will be the celebrity spokesperson for the giant TV ad campaign -- "You shoulda known the future was plastics" ... cut to Paul Simon playing Mrs. Robinson on the SeX model (plugged in of course)with a hairpiece and outfit stolen from Poison. The new guitars also made the front cover of the Musicians Friend catalog.

Sam....I am eager to hear how your project turns out. I bet the guys at the Mothership have an eye on it also.
All I can say, in my best raised eyebrow, Spock fashion... "FASINATING"
.
Ovation has done so much with everything else lately, I still bet the big news will be electronic.
