Location: Avondale, AZ | I am down to just 2 guitars, the viper and my 2004 Epiphone dot Gibson ES335. I have about $700 to go toward restocking my arsonal. My delima is chosing between a accoustic and a Les Paul. I have always had at least 1 Les Paul; Gibson, Epiphone or Ibanez. I almost named my son Les Paul. I have had two accoustic in my live (Yamaha and Applause). I need to research more about the accoustic market before I decide. I will be posting any questions about the subject to this thread.
I like the way the viper accoustics look. Are they shallow or super shallow? |

Location: Earth·SolarSystem·LocalInterstellarCloud·Local Bub | The vipers don't really fit into the "Round Back" Catagory. They do have a extremely shallow profile as they have chambered body. More shallow than any roundback. |

Location: Upper Left USA | The only question you should have is whether you require a Mid, Contour or Shallow bowl LX. the rest is over color and the number of holes.

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | the viper's are not acoustics in the strict sense. You will not be playing them unamplified. If you want to play plugged and unplugged with the same intstrument you need something else. If you're buying new, try an Ovation EliteT or a balldeer. |

Location: Avondale, AZ | Thanks this is the kind of input I need. My applause was a mid bowl. I liked it better than the deep bowls. Without descibing my body too much, the mid bowl fit me alot better. That is why I was thinking about a slimmer one. But if a viper is not really accoustic. Which is the slimmer guitar that is, Elite or balideer? Do they fit my price range. I hope I don't have to go Yamaha again. |

Location: SoCal | Go with an LX model, either Balladeer or Elite. You can find a used one in your price range on ebay. Mid depth bowl, good acoustic and plugged in sound. You can't go wrong with either one. |

Elite or Balladeer the profile wouldn't differ if you are comparing the same bowl sizes. Like Paul said, you should be able to find an LX in your price range. |

Location: Maryland, USA | Don't get an Epi Les Paul...they don't live up to the LEs Paul expectations...try to get a Studio for around $600 if you decide to get a Les Paul.
That'll give you better sound with a Les Paul Neck and Body.
But in terms of raw sound a Gibson SG Standard is actually closer to the sound of a Les paul than a LP STudio. But the body is the SG body and the neck is a bolt on and is straight, and not at an angle to the guitar. |

Location: Indiana | If you decide you want Les Paul, I agree with cruster. There are better choices out there. At least try them, first. Like cruster, a Hamer. I also prefer a Heritage or a Paul Reed Smith. All three(IMHO) are superior guitars. If you decide on an acoustic, I can't improve on the above advice. Good luck

ANd take it into consideration, that 30 years from now a 2005 Gibson Les Paul will be worth quite a bit more.
You can't always say the same about a Hamer or any other brands, for that matter. |

Location: Studio City, California, USA | I hate Gibson with a pasion so lets talk acoustic. If you can somehow find one made out of Koa that fits in your budget, i would go for it, or one made out of Cedar, otherwise it's a no brainer, if you can't afford an Adamas, Elite. With the right amp and the right effect board you make those sound like a Les paul for sure. |

I don't know how old you are, but for me, I don't think I'm going to give a flying rats patoot in 30 years what the market value of a guitar is. If you're buying it as an investment, to keep pristine to maximize return, then GibMarTayder is probably a safe bet. If you're looking for value in a useful/useable instrument then that's a different discussion. Just my $0.002 |

If you want a Les Paul, get a Les Paul.
If you want a Hamer Monaco elite, get a Hamer Monaco Elite.
I'm just sayin the Gibson LP's are worth all the money if you have the money. |
