They wouldn't make it unless there was a potential demand. Problem is when they go after that Williamsberg vibe the guitar will have be pre-aged. Maybe instead of pre-aged they can go for a rustic look.

The beginner market where visual appeal matters more than sound (because they don't know what a good guitar sounds like anyway at that point). Roger

I was at the SA store last night to pick up my guitar, that I dropped off a few days ago for a set-up. Before leaving, I decided to play a few of them guitars in the acoustic room. I also noticed some 10 to 12 year-olds, accompanied by their parents, shopping for guitars as well. To my surprise, these kids went for the Daisy Rocks -- or whatever brand it may be -- that were on display (especially the girls). As mentioned in a previous reply, the "ooh, it's PRETTY" responses from these kids were no stereotype -- it's real! even though, soundwise, you're better off with a 50-dollar or less beater guitar. If the bright pink with flowers, and glittery blue colors from these guitars were enough to look so appealing to these youngsters and future guitarists, then I guess the Ocean and the M.O.B. has found a market for their musical products.

Also allows you to give new orders to a new factory you're not 100% sure of but have high hopes for (if they screw up it doesn't dirty one of your existing brand names) Then again it could be something else....

What I don't like is when it says "by Ovation" on the label inside, and sounds like crap. It just perpetuates the myth. I think they sould go ahead and make the cheap, crappy sounding, pretty guitars - just keep the Ovation name off the product.

The Kalifornia-Blue-all-over is jumping the shark but the soundholes are unique and forward thinking. Give it a solid top and a ring of Abalone and it could be a competitor! Make it out of Koa with the abalone and it would give me a bad case of Coastal Gas.

They got a few made, the marketing department came up with the name. Then maybe they decided not to do it, so a few of these beta pieces are floating around. Or, they threw the beta pieces on eBay to gauge response, and secondly to see if they could circumvent the wok-bowl cheap knock-offs. But then again, I'm sure I don't know.

Joined: February 2005 Posts: 11840 Location: closely held secret | Quote from the Ebay ad: " These DO NOT HAVE PICKUPS! If you don't believe me DO NOT BUY ONE! If you know more about these than we do good for you but the ones we have are what we are selling and everything I am telling you is true. As I responded to one guy and told him it would be Ebay suiside if we did not tell the truth. These are the loadest Applause by Ovation Guitars I have ever heard!. They are like an Adamas guitar. I do not know if it is a Graphite top like an Adamas but that is what they remind me of." I think Victor might need a new copywriter.
