When I was a kid and heard the Stone's "Under my Thumb", I thought it was "I Demand Some". I sang it this way for years. I had a garage band that let a younger kid join so we could use his garage. During our first rehearsal with him singing, he was suspose to sing Jimmi Hendrix's "Hey Joe". He swore he learned all the words from watching us sing it. He sang "Pedro where you going with that gun in your hand".
Now days I take songs and Weird Al them. Two of my favorites: Robert Palmer's "You might as well face it you're addicted to love". It became a song about an enlarged prostate, "You might as well face it you're dick needs a shove". The other was Bruce Springstein's "Born in the U.S.A.". It became "Born just the other day". Do any of you change lyrics to hit songs to make them funny?

It took me a long time to realize that the line
"Gee our old LaSalle ran great..."

My guess is that everyone, to some exent, has done that. We used to do musical parodies of political figures using current hits. Similar to what wierd Al did, but with some substance. It's easy and fun to make them. All you have to do is change the words, since the structure is in place, and the melodies are familiar. These days young people don't know, or care much about politics, but back in the day there was more awareness about these matters. Some of the stuff we did was hilarious to the point of tears. These days, young folks are, or seem to be, more concerned with blink, porn, and tattoos. I watch the "man on the street" interviews on Leno, and other programs, and I'm amazed at the answers to simple questions. You hear a lot of "I don't know" responses. If you wrote a parody about a politician today, I doubt you'd get a chuckle. Today, if you want to get a laugh, you'll have to talk about viagra, implants, powder, or peckers. The media, and the school systems are probably to blame for this progress. Wierd Al should also bear some responsibility. Just kidding, Buck

funny I used to do this all the time...but it involved driving around in my best friend's old man's caddy and a couple of bottles of southern comfort mixed with tango tequila sunrise mix.....it's been a LONG time since we did that....a really LONG time.

I used to do it all the time in high school. Unfortunately the only one I can remember this moment is this, about a (gorgeous) girl in my class who wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed....sung to a certain Beatles' song....."Dumb thing, it's the way you move....."

LeStrange1,
Cool site, thanks.
And now I finally know that lyric to Blinded by the Light. The word is "deuce" not that other word.

My brother is tormenting his wife with his dis-arrangement of the words to "The Weight" "Go to bed now Granny". Hey remember the older T-Mobile commercial with the dusty kids sitting on the sofa beside the T-Mobile guy with the couple saying: "I said How are the kids?"

After a rather lubricated night out, me and the guys I was out with decided that we weren't allowed to order any food on the way home unless it could be fit to a tune. The results are still able to reduce us to tears at the memory, as it gave us such classics as:

Blame it on the Bhaji
Poppadum Preach
Korma Chameleon
You're just too good to be true (the Andy Williams one - chorus went "I love you baby, and if it's quite alright, Chips Cheese and Gravy* to warm a lonely night")
Chicken Tikka (you and I know)
Doner Doner Doner Batman (tenuous, but we were hungry)

I kid you not. You can't make this sort of story up.

*a local delicacy from the Chip Shop. You get your chips, cover them in grated cheese, and then pour gravy over the top. Sober, this is not a good combination. At three o'clock in the morning, it cannot be beaten.

We used to do that all the time. Two songs used to really tick the better halves off were: "If I could lick your thighs love" Gordon Lightfoot's "If you could read my mind" and, "Fifty ways to do your mother" Paul Simon's "Fifty ways to leave your lover" :D

I believe that was the Boomtown Rats, not Elvis Costello.....

Of course, the CLASSIC is Jimi Hendrix' "Purple Haze"....."'cuse me, while I kiss this guy"....

Don't forget those holiday favorites 'Check the balls on that big collie' and 'Chet's nuts roasting on an open fire.' My wife doesn't find either of them humorous any longer (not that she ever really did). My kids hate to ride in the car with me, as they know I'm going to turn the radio on and make up words to whatever's playing. It's a bad habit, but so much fun.

I have done that to songs for YEARS;my sisters hated it.Ya know the song The night has a thousand eyes?Part of the chorus goes"remember when you tell those little white lies that the night has a thousand eyes".My version of that?"Remember when you shave your fat hairy thighs, that the night has a thousand eyes". ;) Some of my made-up lyrics werent very nice, either.By the way, talkin about CCRs Bad Moon Risin,my daughter thought he sang
"Theres a baboon on the rise".

One of my favorites (Riders on the Storm). I'm sure Woody and Kurt know who Bob Rivers is...

Burgers on the grill
Burgers on the grill
I’ve really had my fill
Of burgers on the grill
When the relatives go home
I’m stuck with chicken bones
And burgers on the grill

There’s a steak tip on the coals
It fell down through the holes
And now it’s caught on fire
Smells like a funeral pyre
I was tryin’ to get it back
But it’s turnin’ pretty black
Steak tip on the coals

Yeah!

Wiener on the foil
The skin begins to boil
I dropped it in the soil
I thought that it was spoiled
So I washed it with a hose
And fed it to Aunt Rose
Wiener on the foil

Burgers on the grill
Burgers on the grill

You can hear it here.

He has a lot of "twisted" rewrites, good parody!

Yes, KZOK - "The Rock from Kaazock", invented the months of Zeptember and Rocktober!

Still playing the same music and mental babble from 1975 onward! Originally had their "Live from the Aquarius Theater" feturing none other than Anne and Nancy Wilson and Heart!

Thanks for the flashback! I think I need to be alone now.

To Tom Petty's anthem:

Stop towing my car around!

A popular track while at Ohio State a couple of decades back.

"Burgers on the Grill" was great.

There's a site out there with all sorts of mistakenly heard lyrics, but I can't remember the name.
