After playing Ovations onstage for years, I recently played a 1877(?)- it was an Elite mid depth in a pewter color that left me cold. However, the neck had a nice C shape instead of the typical Ovation rounded V. This felt much better and I made a note to look for a model with this bowl and neck curve. I found a Legend 1777 on eBay last week in Cadillac Green burst in great shape. (Same neck shape and mid depth bowl).I won the bid and can't put this guitar down! It sounds bigger than my previous Custom Balladeer super shallow and the neck feel much better under my hand. I look forward to recording and gigging with this, since it has an OP-X preamp. Anyone else been impressed with this bowl and neck shape?

Congrats Gigmeister and welcome aboard. always love to hear great Stories like yours. I've played a legend 1777 and really liked it's feel. I don't own it, but it is a great Guitar.

I play a 1767, and the soft V is a piece of cake...would like to try one of the 12-strings with a similar neck..

All my previous Ovations had that soft V and I hate it! Barre chords aren't fun to play and the newer neck profile works for a greater variety of styles for me, including classical pieces. I know lots of players that prefer V shapes, however. I also dig the mid depth bowl- it sounds bigger and seems to resonate more than a super shallow. Yet it's not too deep like a deep bowl.

I have a 2003-vintage 1777 with an OP-40. It is a superlative guitar. Nice rich sound, sweet neck, sweet action. Like "comfort" food, it is my "comfort" guitar!

What type and gauge strings are you using? Is the bridge shimmed at all? Mine came with two shims and I removed one. It still feels a bit high, though, with Darco Light Bronze- 012-054.

Mostly I play my 1866 12string legend born in 1995.
And I dont even know what kind of neck it has *hahaha* Do I have to? :-)

Basically, I dont know anything about the shape of my necks on all of my Ovations :-(

Look in my gallery thread and help me out (!!!) please

Gigmeister, I use D'Addario Lights, EJ16 or EXP16, .012"-.053" on it. It came with two shims, I removed one, was unhappy with the sound loss, and put it back. Action is still better than with either of my LX guitars.

fguki, I think all the newer Ovation 12-string necks are pretty similar in shape. If you're happy with it, that is the important thing.
