Hello everybody!!

My name is Ray and I am from the Netherlands and this is my first post here.
Very interesting forum here!!
So, I read some former post about O' Celebrities and found some more information 'bout these guitars, but I always read about laminated tops.
I own a Celebrity CS247 myself and no doubt about it: It's a solid spruce top!! Alright, it isn't AA-grade Sitka, but solid anyway.

Am I so wrong, or has anyone ever heard of Celebrities with a solid top?

A guy from the Netherlands named "Buzz". NICE!!!

First of all, Welcome!
Secondly, you get bonus points (from me any way, for doing some RESEARCH here BEFORE asking a dumb question (being generally rhetorical here . . . your question wasn't dumb).

What makes you so certain that yours has a solid top?

I've personally never heard of any, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist . . .
(If there's ANYTHING we've learned here, it's that ANYTHING is possible . . .)

I'd be PERFECTLY HAPPY to research it for you!
Send me a sampling of some "varietals" from one of your favorite . . . uh, . . . "Coffee Shops" and I'll quite happily do some extensive research for you :D

Y'know, . . . I think we've been leaving our EuroBretheren out of the loop far too long . . .
I think we need t'do an OFC/Euro Convention!!!
Someplace "centrally located", . . . like, . . oh, I don't know . . . Amsterdam, maybe??

We'd just have t'pimp off Witko to his usual "regulars", and we'd be In Like Flynn . . .

Welcome, Buzz!

Thanks for your early reply! Believe me or not, I'm one of the happy few Dutch who isn't addicted to drugs :p

But I know some good luthiers around here!

How can I be so sure to have a solid top? Well, After my guitar had a severe crash, the top was damaged, so I had my Celebrity repaired. After the repair was done, the luthier told me, the top was solid, over which he was surprised himself. Back home I checked the top myself and I noticed (with the help of a flashlight) that the wood patterns of the spruce were equal on both sides. It seems to be solid, doesn't it?

An OFC/Euroconvention in Amsterdam? Sounds good to me, I'll do some 'research' for you! :D

FINALLY, somebody made the connection!

I think that some of the celebrities do have solid tops. Not sure which ones, it happened after my time.

I have been fortunate enough to have spent considerable time in the Netherlands, and am quite certain that the right varietals can cause one to inspect woodgrain for hours on end without noticing time is passing. But it's the Dutch people that makes it such a great place to spend some time. Welcome to the club and don't be a stranger. There are a number of your countrymen who visit here regularly.

I'm with Cliff ... an OFC "European Vacation" gathering would be a most welcome adventure. I am more partial to the smaller cities like Delft or Den Haag, but Amsterdam has its own unique calling.

Back on topic, there were a number of Celebrities that were equipped with solid tops, although the only ones I am sure about are the multi-hole designs. Most of the limited editions have solid tops, some "regular" runs and of course the longneck Celebrity have a solid top. Generally the model number has an "S" following it to denote a solid top, but I'm not sure that is always the case.

There are a few Celebrities that came with a solid top. The DCS247S (longneck-extended scale), the CSAT-47vs ("archtop"), the "Pinnacle" CU147 & CU247 Deluxe. There's probably others as well. When their new, they usually have a clear sticker the states "solid top" .

Hi Buzz and welcome,

Since 1999, the Celebrity CS-247 is available with a Solid Spruce Top.
The # model is CS-247-4/S (for Solid Top).
Look at page #11 of this catalog: 1999 CATALOG

It's a great idea to organize an "European Ovation Convention" and it's not the first time that we're talking about this idea.
I'm thinking about it since a long time but it's a too big job for me. I can't do it alone and I don't know how to do!!
Since few months, I'm in contact with "Camac" the French distributor. Ludovic, the person in charge of the Ovation brand is a very kind and really helpful guy. Maybe can I submit him this idea??? And maybe Camac can do something in partnership with "Music Meyer" the German distributor???
We don't have in Europe a legitimate and attractive place like the Factory for a meeting. Berlin, London, Amsterdam, Paris...???
And how many people would be interested by such an event???
A lot of questions without an answer...
At the end, we don't have here someone like Al to federate the Ovation European community!!
By anyway, if this event is possible in the future, I will be there and I will be so glad to meet Schoeder, Kidschool and all the others.

J :)

Thank you all for your extended replies! It's very nice to be here!

As a matter of fact my Celebrity is the multi-soundhole model.

For now I'm going to spend some holidays with my family.
See you in a week!
