In the decades that I've been playing guitar, solid body and acoustic steel string, it's been my experience that if I break a string, it's almost always the G string. This is also true for the other half of Campbell and Hare. (I suppose I could blame him: Every time he breaks a G string, I end up breaking one the next time we play.)
Maybe it's kind of like the fact that the middle finger is the one most likely to be injured and require a splint or large bandage. . . .
Is there something about G strings that makes them more prone to breakage, or is there something about technique?

...butt seriously,

maybe be that tension, size and construction of G strings tend to fatigue more quickly.

...when i break strings it tends to be G or B

Similarly, thinner gauge material will wear out faster, under the same tension. Less mass to carry the load, and more rapid fatigue. Newton was probably right.....

After (about 40)years of trying to figure strings out, one thing I have found is that the G string bears more tension than any of the other strings when tuned to standard pitch which is about 30 pounds tension. Here are specifications for a typical set I use:

E 1st Plain Steel .011 Tension 19.9 lbs
B 2nd Plain Steel .015 Tension 20.5 lbs
G 3rd Bronze Round Wound .024 Tension 29.6 lbs
D 4th Bronze Round Wound .032 Tension 28.9 lbs
A 5th Bronze Round Wound .043 Tension 28.2 lbs
E 6th Bronze Round Wound .052 Tension 24.2 lbs

The standard answer to "Why do I break strings?" If the path from tuning mechanism to bridge saddle/bridge pin (better with an Ovation 'cause there are no pins!) is un-obstructed with nothing that binds, you ought not to break strings or have tuning problems (no burrs or sharp edges to bind or grind away at a string). There is also something to be said for high quality, fresh strings, too. In my experience, some brands, without naming names, break more easily than others.

Its always the "octave G " on a 12 that goes first . Does that help or hinder the large asses debate!!!!!

It was but when it comes to the FBG's, there's leeway given all around.
