If you are looking for a good read, allow me to suggest “Guitar: An American Life” by Tim Brookes.

When Brookes’ beloved guitar is damaged by airport handlers, he sets out to acquire a custom built “dream” guitar. The book details all the steps taken, from locating a master guitar builder to setup. Since each step takes a while to complete, Brookes uses the slack time to provide a fascinating, funny, and entertaining history of the American guitar experience. No genre left unexamined.

Reminiscent of Tracy Kidder’s brilliant “Soul of a New Machine”. Brookes, like Kidder, truly loves his subject matter.

- No financial interest.
- One passing reference to Ovation.

I recently finished,"Clapton's Guitar- Watching Wayne Henderson build the Perfect Instrument" by Allen St. John.

For the old Martin fans out there, you'll eat it up.

Just heard Billy Gibbons (ZZTop) on the Stern Show.

Evidently, Billy just came out with a TequilaTableBook entitled "Rock & Roll GearHead" (basically photos of cars & guitars.

If there's any PinkFloyd fans out there, I HIGHLY recommend "Inside Out" by drummer Nick Mason. A pretty exhaustive account done with a very witty writing style.

I was about to recommend "Clapton's Guitar" also, but I see Jeff W. beat me to it.

AMAZING that a luthier can make EC wait 10 years for a guitar.....Martin can't be liking this book. Makes their guitars look like second-string.

I saw the Billy Gibbons book at Borders yesterday. If you're into guitars and hot rods, it's a good one. Lots of pictures that date back to the hunble beginnings of ZZ Top and lots of pictures of his cars.
