Have you seen any uglier. Not much of the original left. Perhaps it could stop a bullet.

"Custom chrome" must mean made out of tin.

Actually, so far as mods go, this one was done pretty well. At least it was set up with the new pickguard to have just 1 pup and 1 control for the pup. I have seen some mods where there was just a big aching hole and knobs that did nothing.

Wonder what the reserve is....body and paint looked to be in nice shape.

It is begging for some Walnut Burl with a Dimebag Darrel (SD - very hot) hidden under the PG. Place a single dual switch way back out of the way and you have it.

Keep it simple, make it hot!

Woody, would a pup (even a hot one like the DD) work hidden under a pickguard. Really cool thought but I find it difficult to believe that it would have any juice.

I've seen but not played several custom's lately that have "hidden" pups under the pg, most have been preamped tho.

God Bless,

I have a borrowed sheet metal cutter that I haven't returned yet. Maybe I should cut out a bunch of custom chrome pickguards before I give it back and sell them for big bucks.

Am I wrong or would the placement of the pick-up give this BW a real twangy sound?

The Variax does something like this. A ceramic magnet (hot) like the Dimebag is fairly pow'full. I asked this question over on the Seymour Duncan site.

I have also experimented by setting the pickups low and placing PG material between them and the strings.

If you were to shave a little bit off the back of a BW or Viper neck you could lower the bridge accordingly.

Just a concept and theory at this time...

This would be a good project guitar. The neck and body look to be in really good shape. Take it from there. I'd put 2 firebird pickups.
