Random quote: “Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” -Plato

Dan Roten became the lucky new parent of the Trace Elliot TA100R Concert that has faithfully served Connecticut based Jazz Guitarist, Michael Coppola.

I did the whole XLR-Phantom Power mini-course (Phantom Power - yet again? thread) with Dan when we met up yesterday. I picked up a Planet Waves Swivel XLR cable for him, but even with the set-screw removed, I could not get the barrel apart to jumper pin-1 to the shell. Dan was just going to have to use a dummy plug for a while.

Dan called last night to tell me that with phantom power off and no dummy plug, the OP-50 works fine... even the tuner... OK, I grabbed the Ohm meter and surprise... the Planet Waves Swivel XLR cable already has the ground-to-shell connection. I assumed XLR cables were coming now with the shell floating. Great...

But the phantom power was off. That meant the OP-50 was running on battery? Dan took out the battery and now the OP-50 did not turn on. So the XLR ground-to-shell connection was enough to activate the OP-50 on battery.

Next, Dan turned on phantom power, but did not reinstall the battery. The OP-50 worked fine and so did the tuner.

In previous threads regarding XLR fiddling, I was under the impression that the battery was required for the tuner so I always had one installed?

I was too, Noah - never occured to me to try it without the battery in. I'll try it on my 40's and Pro.
