yes another overused word in the current vernacular.

I was watching a movie on sundance a week ago about the Shakespheare and company book store in Paris, one of the resident poets said words to the effect that (and mind you he is American) that he hates the was Americans use the word awesome, A hamburger at macdonald's is awesome!!! No that is not awesome....standing on a volcano with the earth bubbling under your feet is awesome!!

I agree.

"I'm Like" and "Ya' Know" should be added to the list.

The only McDonald's hamburger I ever liked was at a McDonald's in Paris. Within walking distance of the louvre, I think. Usually McD's are aweful, so maybe, he heard an American who got a hold of one of these relatively decent Parisian big macs and didn't know any better.

Awesome should be linked with the dude thread. They are linguistically married. Yes, it is silly to over-express the magnitude of the mundane. All sense of proportion gets lost. "These trash bags are fantastic and I have some fabulous paperclips". My sister uses adjectives like terrific, and marvalous, in describing overyday objects. Can a bowl of tomato soup be called amazing, or wonderful? I'll let you know after lunch.

Never eatwen dog - my favourite is baby seal stew. The big plus is there's no washing up afterwards, you get to wear what you don't eat. Ecologically sound.

Around here it's called "McDogfood's" I refuse to eat there. Watch "Supersize Me" and you won't eat there either.

Good points!
Totally!

For sure!

Right on!

Whoa!

Cha-a-a-a!

There are a handful of matronly women where I work that constantly use words like Sweety, Darl'in, Honey, etc. In it's place they seem to fit. I have had over 20 years of Government Management-anti-sexual-harassment-post-tailhook-be very afraid training and it just leaves you afraid to be yourself sometimes.

I do prefer that if it is meant in a harassing or disrespectful manner you just kick their ass and it should stop.

I agree... awesome should be replaced with the slang terms it replaced (and far outlived) like:

groovy
boss
bitchen'
far out

Look, every generation's got its slang, and every previous generation bitches about stupid it is, and that's how (and when) you know you're really that old.

knowwhatI'msayin' homey?

Don't laugh, I've been to a dog meat reastaurant in china (though did not partake of their primary fare!). I saw a guy bring his dog to the shop, they butchered the dog, quartered it, and he left smiling ear to ear, with a big bowl of dogmeat. Kind of purplish hued. The guy couldn't have been happier. I was told it was good for your virulity.

So next time your kid doesn't eat his food, tell him what happens to the dogs in china and that'll have to make his own meal.

I like everything now. I also find things are much easier now that I have taken the blue pill.

No opinion is better than any opinion.
Thank you for your time.
