Is it that so damn difficult to use much or many? Are we that lazy? Has the English language so degenerated?

When I taught ESL (English as a Second Language) I always taught much and many and these native forgien speakers got it. Why can't American's get it.

I remember having a teacher in school who could not tolerate the word "like". Think maynard G. kerbs "like wow". I did not get it then but I got it now....

sorry for the linguistic rants but it has been bugging me.

I think that it's a reflection on modern society. Years ago, people dressed properly for work or school, had some common courtesy, and yes, knew how to speak properly. I think those days are gone forever.

You're absolutely right, Al. The previous generation has raised a bunch of freakin' heathens and it should not go unsaid.

(Um, can someone make sure that all of Al's weapons (guns, knives, capos, etc.) are locked up securely? The rest of us on the East Coast thank you.)

I believe he has said it well, how do we turn it around it starts with us. We can make a difference show some courtesy, I think this in itself would be a good starting point. Speak properly try not swearing not all sentences begin with the F word. OK hows that for a rant. Now lets go and make a difference.

Having been parented by an old schoolmaster and a crossword puzzle addict; I am particularly sensitive to grammarical blunders and sloppy syntax. My delusion is wishing for a return to more precise diction, I surmise.

and, the Dem's have no credibility...just chasin' their own tails.

As long as we are on the subject and it is Friday...

The US Postal Service has created a stamp with a picture of Senator Hillary Clinton to honor her achievements as the First Lady of our nation. In daily use it was shown that the stamp was not sticking to envelopes.

This enraged Senator Clinton, who demanded a full investigation After a month of testing, a special commission made the following findings:

*The stamp was in perfect order
*There was nothing wrong with the applied adhesive.
*People were spitting on the wrong side

USPS is also issuing a Dubbya stamp....
They had to use his DWI mugshot, cause they couldn't find his National Guard Id.

You can hardly see the powder stain under his nose....

Alright you guys. Everyone back to their respective left and right corners.
Al....you were an english teacher before you became "just an idiot who sells gear for a living", right? I can see why todays language can make you crazy. Every year, about this time I think, there is an announcement made of the new words that will be added to the dictionary. I scratch my head in wonder every year.
I think we all break some classroom rules here on the board. I think it is in an attempt to make this seem more like a face to face conversation than the written word.
I'll give you my choice for what hits a sour note for me....I that "I'm just a idiot who..." phrase. It's not true.

Lets face it ,if you read Al's original grievance as a proof reader would ,it only proves how hard the language is . Of course the errors could be deliberate....
