I am a new to this forum and somewhat new to the guitar. I am an intermediate player and a new owner of an Ovation Celebrity. I relieze this is an import but this is just my first guitar as I plan to purchase an Adamas some time soon.

My questions is I reciently purchased a Roland Micro Cube amp as a practice amp used for $95.00 at store here in Santa Clara, California. I love the sound that this little amp puts out and on six AA's. I offers so many amp model effects and more.(check out reviews on the net)

I am now interested in purchasing a Boss/Roland AD-3 Acoustic Instrument Processor. My plan is to do some busking around town here in the greater SF bay Area, some open mikes, and some chruch worship stuff as well. My question is this. Is this a good first grig/set up for a first timer? My musical tastes range from contemporary Christian, alt-folk, with some Johnny Cash mixed in. What do you all think.

Welcome Gman. You'll get some really good answers from the folks here ... it's good to see another NorCal person on the board. I live just across the Bay from you in San Ramon. Maybe we can figure out a way to get together and mangle a few songs. ;)

Hi Gman, Welcome to O-land. What's a grig/setup? I've always had good luck with Boss/Roland/Edirol products. They make good stuff. Enjoy the forum.

You won't go wrong with the AD3 - and Boss gear can live in the great outdoors without falling apart.
But if you get the chance check out the combination of the AD3 and the Micro-cube. They may sound great individually, but.......

Welcome to the club.

I picked up a Microcube at CMS - I'm having a lot of fun with it.

I just got back from auditioning an AD3 at my local guitar shop. My quest is for something that can soften the tone of my Adamas when I play through the PA in church.

Anyway, the AD3 isn't it. In fact, for the Adamas, it makes no sense at all. I already have on-board notch and four band eq. The AD3 has "two band eq" (ie, "low" and "high" adjustments). The anti feedback is better, in that it is automatic, but dialing in the notch isn't that tough. I guess the automatic would be nice if you found yourself feeding back in the middle of a song and wanted immediate relief.

It also has chorus and reverb. That's nice, and they seem to work well. For me, they are not necessary, but I could see them being useful for someone else. I have a Marshall AS50 amp (which I don't use at church) that has a nice spring chorus and reverb built in. It also has a separate notch filter if necessary.

Anyway, I've concluded that the AD3 isn't what I'm looking for. What I need is some kind of digital sound shaper. I think that is more like the Fishman Aura.

Still looking...

Cheers!

Jeff

Could someone weigh in re: the Aphex Acoustic (Guitar) Exciter?

Does anyone use one of these?

Thanks,
