Ok, I'm pumped! What are the facts and what are the speculations on an 06 Collector?

The variations we saw at the tour were slothead or regular headstock....12 or 14 fret to the body...inlaid leafy soundhole or the plain one that Waskel is holding.
I guess we will find out in January. I bet it will come with some suped-up electronics.

Where as I don't like the synthetic look of the MOB I do like the alternative soundholes.

Koa top, 12 fret, abalone inlay with MOB-like soundholes, OP Pro studio and certificate for a large can of Dole Pineapple!

Rick, can you hear me now?

My preference was for a 12-fret slothead with the bass-side epaulettes. But the inlay should be darker than the top instead of lighter, with the grain running parallel instead of counter.

I'd go 12-fret, slotted head, with either the oval-shaped mono hole or EliteT-style multi-holes (no epaulet). . .

Inlay, SchmInlay . . . a one-piece epaulet is ghastly! . . .

I'm good with about anything rather than that not quite round hole.

I agree with Waskel, the epaulet on that koa guitar should be dark, like ebony or similar.

Now, Cliff... I agree, I didn't say it should be a 1-piece epaulete. I just don't think that it should stand out like a pig in a swimming pool...

the monotone/one piece epaulet worked on the 2003 Collector because it was darker and the Walnut tones were fairly subdued.

a solid Padauk on Koa would work.

I personnaly would go for a 12 fret, slothead, one hole.
But I'm wondering : which kind of sound does Koa's top give ?

I actually thought the llamas fit in rather nicely.
Especially considering the company they were keeping...

Koa has a darker sound, richer than spruce, but not as rich as cedar or redwood, in my experience from both guitars and mountain dulcimers. Not to my taste, but it is to some.

I've got to agree with that. I love how that wood looks and thought that I would just HAVE to own one but then I played one and it just didn't so it for me. I was very disappointed.

I would agree with you, Schroed, but for some reason the ones they had at the Factory sounded rich and full.

Those that have played my Martin D-25K2 have changed their bias to Koa. No problem, it has a good home.

Ok Al, what's the deal on the '06?

When available, are you taking pre-orders, expected availability, etc., etc.

I have no clue on what they are choosing for the 05 collectors I am assuming it will be the prototype that slipkid is pictured with at the open house.
I am rather sure it will have epaulets and will be koa after that I am not sure.
As for pre order sure just e mail me but realize I have no price for the instrument yet.

more info as I get it.

The final version of the 06 should be unveilled at the January NAMM show and be available after that.

Actually it wasn't an Ovation but a Yairi (not a cheap one either). Saw it on the rack, was really amazed by the wood and just couldn't help but pick it up and play a bit. Was really hoping for a sound that I couldn't possibly live without and, like I said earlier, it was just not there. My loss, no question :( .

To my ear, Koa has the warmth of mahogany, the same sustain, but with a brighter mid range. I've never played an ovation koa, but I would imagine it's a very rich sound, in that ovations (and adamas are very articulate) and then overlaid with the koa, well that's just guitar porn! Nice. I'm afraid though, unless I win the lottery, I'll be living vicariously thru you guys. Let me know how it sounds. I'll be jealous. I hope it has an eppaulette like Kaki Kings guitar, and just one target diamond at the the 12th fret. Man that would be sweet.
