Location: Avondale, AZ | I don't know much about headphones so I thought I'd ask this crew. I need some head phones so I can play my electrics through the Marshall stack while others are home. I have about $150 to spend. I wonder if you can pipe other music in to practice to. What other features are there to look for? |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I asked for some headphones for Christmas, but my budget is much lower. A lot of the new amps let you pipe music through them, then with the headphones you'd just bypass the speakers in the amp. |

Location: East Wenatchee, WA | I have owned a set of Sennheisers for 20 years (the open air type with yellow foam ear pieces). They still make the same headset and they remain FANTASTIC. I have a variety of other types, but when I want true sound...I grab the Senn's. |

Anything you can afford.
As for piping in outside music, it depends on the combo. I've never seen headphones that let you mix two sources on their own. All ways gotta go thru something else.

Location: closely held secret | I've got a pair of Senn's too. Great value for the money. A small (4-6 channel) mixer like this makes playing along with pre-recorded music simple.

Location: NJ | I've got a REALLY old pair of AKG's that still work great (and the they still make 'em). They were a birthday gift from a good friend who worked in pro audio. At the time, they were kind of the "industry standard". Don't remember the model number, but they're the exact same ones as in Master Calman's picture:

Location: Tennessee | I use AKG 240M headphones ... they're very similar to the ones Cliff posted about, if not the same. Downside ... they are rated at 600ohms impedence, meaning you need to crank the volume at the source. Upsides ... very clear sound, very comfortable to wear, and have lasted and lasted. I also like Sennheisers a lot, but there is a lot of "bleed" noise given their design which makes them impractical if you're using them for recording. For sound isolation, I also have a set of Shure E3s which are terrific, though I mainly use them with my iPod on airplanes. |

You drive the finest automobiles, play the finest guitars, and you could only pony up for the E3's??? C'mon man!! The E5's are only $500, and I hear they're worth every penny!!!

Thanks allot for the website Jeff. Now I have something new (and more unobtainable) to dream about. the UE-10's are only $900. Jackass!! I don't even own an I-pod... :D |

Location: Tennessee | Errrr .... I wanted to see if I liked the whole concept before I invested the big bucks. :( Actually, I tried them side by side with the E4s using my own iPod and the E3s were better, to my ears. I did not try the E5s as they didn't have them in stock.
I buy my cars and guitars second hand for the most part and let someone else take the first depreciation hit, so if someone here has a set of E5s at 40% off new, I'm interested. :D |

Location: Orange County, California | Seriously, Headroom is a great site, but I'd bargain hunt elsewhere. I've been exposed to audiophilia before, and and it's not a good path for me to travel down. I was just "browsing" their balanced amp section, I could easily blow the OFC guitar wad on a set of cans and a little amp. The truth is the quaulity of recorded music today is not as good as some of the stuff we have to reproduce it with, which is why vinyl will never die. |

Location: Avondale, AZ | Yes I plan to use headphones on my Marshall stack. It is the only amp that is working now. It is a new MG100HDFX. I am still getting familar with it. It does have a place in the back of the head to imput a source of music to play along with. Between the overdrive and the digital FX this thing can produce alot of different sounds. There is a lot to learn. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | After you buy Porsches and Ovations, you may not have any money left for expensive audio stuff. I'm with you Stoney. I didn't get to the point where I could afford Porsches by being frivolous with what I had. My first 2 used Porsches were good investments. I bought the Boxster new because they wanted too much for used ones, but the value has dropped a bunch. My second choice was another used 911. The value of those would have stayed up there. |

OLJ....just one word of caution.... in the 70's I played my Les Paul through my Fender Stack with headphones...now I have continuous moderate/severe Tinnitus.... just watch the volume, or better yet, use in-ear protection.... |
