Ok, I'm at Barnes and Noble buying a copy of Acoustic Guitar. The clerk is very good looking, maybe mid thirties. She has that "book store" pseudo intellectual look to her. Very nice.

The conversation goes like this:

Me (handing her my purchases) : "All set"

Hottie Book Store Fantasy Babe : "Going to play some guitar, huh?"

Me : "Well, something like that"

HBSFB : "Are you a professional?"

Me: "No, I gave up on making a living playing guitar 20 years ago"

HBSFB : "Well, you still look like a musician"

Ok, I'm not sure if that was a compliment or not, but I'll take it. The HBSFB at Barnes and Noble thinks I "look like a musician"! That's good enough for me.

Ha! Sounds like a compliment to me. So.... Did you forget to pick up that copy of ummmm..... uuuhhh....let's see.... Performing Songwriter Magazine? You DID? Well then, it sounds like you just need to get yourself BACK over there.... :)

Your experience really made me laugh though, because today, I was at my Barnes and Noble, and while i was browsing guitar mags ( and i also bought Acoustic Guitar), a guy started talking to me, asking me if I played guitar and yada yada yada... did I teach lessons.... haha...

but he wasn't really a hottie :(

I was glad when my husband came over ;)

cliff: Al, how come you never bring your wife to these events.

me: you never know when you can pick up some young trophy hottie.

cliff: so how long have you been coming to these events alone.

me: a while.

cliff: al, if it hasn't happened yet, it ain't never gonna happen.

me: yup, but you gotta keep hope alive that the young trophy bim is out there.

Come on, Mark! Is it really too much to ask that you allow a pathetic, middle-aged, overweight, thinning-haired guy a moment of ego gratifying self delusion?!? :)

Geeze! You probably spend your time going around to grade schools telling the second graders that there is no Santa Clause.

Cheers!

Jeff

Hmmmm, "You still look like a musician."

You look like an underfed junky with a hangover, who is homeless whenever his girlfriend dumps him?

Don't you guys know that the only thing more pathetic than the "Pseudo inteletual" bookstore Not-Hot employee hitting on you (badly), is YOU taking it as a compliment. Omaha-Jeff; thanks you for being merciful to her, and remeber you could have easily pulled off the "I'm too stuck up to be nice to you beacause I AM still a musician" easily. She would have been star struck for days... :D :p

Susan, you shouldn't be allowed out in public without your husband (or at least a hugely obvious DIAMOND on your finger). Talent and wit together is a powerful aphrodisiac to the young, naive, Probably nerdy if not cute, boostore clerk. :D Hubba-Hubba, Whoo-Hoo!! :D

Corparations like Barnes and Noble, and Borders spend millions to train their staff to be "friendly". It makes people come back later to buy the magazines they "forgot" earlier. The only thing they don't usually make small talk about at the counter is porn, and Bibles.

I once had a checkout girl tell me I looked "really hot". Only later did I realize it was because of the huge sweat stains under the arms of the shirt. Dave

Al,
She may have been one of those brainless bims.
She will probably ask the next guy for the month and the next one for the year. :D  :)

Sorry, Omaha. My ego got deflated a long time ago and I've been trying to do it to everyone else since. I've heard that hot chicks actually do like middle aged, overweight, bald guys, especially if they play guitars. Feel better?

You may need to listen to Montreal comedy duo
Bowser and Blue. Their song

She Want Me (to go away)

http://www.bowserandblue.com/album2.htm
captures the truth of the moment witheringly.

(no, I'm just a fan. But thanks for asking. ;) )

Fred... I was once offered a large diamond by my first husband. (cause he was feeling kinda bad about that affair he was having  ). I asked if I could just have a new guitar instead. I got a very nice Taylor :) I never regretted it.

Susan <--- who's now married to her "forever" man. :p

I'm going to keep that one.

It took my wonderful wife years to fully understand and believe that I never bought her flowers because; "Only guilty men do that!"
