Hey, my name is Thomas. I'm a new fan of Ovations. I was recently given an older Celebrity from a dear friend of mine. I've tried guitars before (as well as other instruments), but I've never felt the spark I felt when I first held this guitar. I have a new love of my life, second only to my wife and kids.

Now I'm taking guitar lessons at the local college. I can't read or play, but I'm learning, and having a blast doing it. I just wish I was 12 year younger. lol

Welcome. When you get callouses on your left fingertips and grow your fingernails out on your right, you are getting there. If you get callouses on both sets of fingertips, you're spending too much time on the OFC board.

Welcome Thomas!

I have no desire to be younger myself, but on weak days I wish my wife was 12 years younger....

wait, did I use my outside voice for that?

Hey, Thomas. Welcome to the wonderful world of O's! And by the way, age is irrelevant: it's never to late to start playing guitar :D

SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING: guitar playing is addictive, especially on an Ovation. (No worries, your fingertips will tell you when it's time to seek an intervention!)

Nice to have a neighbor in the OFC... I'm in O/Side.

You'll meet plenty of people here who, like yourself, own an Ovation and can't read or play. Welcome! John <>{

Thomas, welcome to the group. I've had many people tell me, after they've heard me, that I can't play. So don't let that stop you.....

12 years younger just means 12 more years of work.

lol!! I know that Thomas. My kids used to be into him too. They're more into Blue's Clues. I'm a huge fan of Steve. After he quit, he started writing rock music. I've met him twice. He's a cool guy.

SWEET! maybe when I get better, we can jam.

And yeah, my fingers are just getting over the pain stage, and into the calous stage. Unfortunately, I can't grow my fingernails out, I have paper-thin nails that tear when they get too long. The tear usually gets into the quick. So I have to keep them short.

I had a girlfriend who used a nail strengthener, but it was too ... obvious. I'm not into lookin' all purty.

If I knew how to do a quote, I would quote this from SteveChapman. It describes my household.

In the full reply form, down at the bottom, there are buttons to use, one of which is the quote button. :)

I do have a question. The guy who owned the guitar (I call her Celest btw) before me scratched the hell out of the surfece. He is more of an ameture than even I am. he didn't use a pick guard and hammerd it nearly to death. What is the best way to buff those out? Do I need to have her fully resurfaced?

If so, is there a way I can do it myself. I'm low on moolah, and can't afford a professional.

I know, "very carefully"; I've heard that one, but I thought I'd ask.
