I'm "this close" (visualize thumb and forefinger held about 1/64th of an inch apart) from buying a new Custom Legend LX. The question is the color: Black or Cherry Burst?

I want something that will compliment my Adamas 1597. Even though that guitar is "ruby graphite", it really doesn't look red unless it is in really strong light. To most people, it probably looks like a really dark maroon.

Which way would you go?

Cheers!

Jeff

I don't particularly care for either, but black > than cherry burst. What happened to regular sunburst/tobaccoburst! I hope O axes the cherry obsession next year.

Is it black with red epaulettes or natural?

I like BCB, since I have a 1778 LX BCB, it's really very beautiful plus I like red. Either choice would be nice.

No ep's. I'm going with a center soundhole on this one.

If it was my choice, there wouldn't be any question. Red over black any day.

I think you have to define what "compliment" means to you. If it means two colors that look good next to each other, well, I think either will look good next to the ruby Adamas. OTOH, if it means the color(s) sort of flow between the two guitars, when next to each other, then, I think you have to go with the black cherry burst. Bottom line, what kind of "look" are you trying to achieve?

I don't think you will go wrong with either. But if buying new, get it from Dietze instead of Russo's. :D

OK, I will be more definitive. When I can afford an Adamas it will be the Ruby Graphite or a ME 12 string in RRB, or one of Als' texture tops in red. I think the BCB would look awesome beside your Adamas.

Is Russo's even a dealer anymore? They don't have any inventory.

I just got an Adamas ME 12 string with the ruby finish. Depending on the lighting and where the viewer stands, the color looks noticeably different. It ranges from black to maroon, or perhaps a dark maroon sunburst. But, under direct bright light, the finish turns ruby red. (Or is she just blushing at my inept initial attempts at playing a 12 string smoothly? :p )

To me, color selection a personal thing. I love the ruby finish, but it's not for everyone. If available, I'd take a long look at both options under a variety of lighting, then pick the one I thought looked best on the guitar.

I'm with willard. I may be the only 52 year old kid with an acne problem. Black guitars just show all my finger prints. Of course red ones do too, but I like red better.

the cherry red burst is absolutely beautiful in person. I didn't think much of the color until I saw it in person. black is nice, but the red is hypnotic. really. oh yeah, the sound is sweet too. just my $.02, peace mike

Black guitars are REAL nice when they're hanging up on the wall all polished and sparkly . . . and y'take it down, play a couple delicate chords, wipe it off and put it back up again . . .

. . . playing under lights in a gigging situation is another matter altogether . . . an' it ain't pretty . . .

Russo's had a few O's the last time I was there, I believe (a few months ago). They do have a pretty amazing inventory of other guitars, however. Back in the day, they had a Blue EA68. I bought it! It's the only guitar I ever bought there.

FWIW, I have been a Dietze customer for many years and Tim Pratt -- owner of the Omaha store -- is a friend of mine. They have served me well, and I am a loyal customer. That's my testimony, and I'm stickin' to it.

Both colors are great and fingerprints should not be an issue with the Adamas top. I have never had a problem with the U681T or the 1581.

However, the 1537 is a fingerprint nightmare!

I didn't think about how'd it'd look on a gig. On a gig maybe yellow would look good, white?, tabaco sunburst? So I guess that decides it, if the guitar's only going to at least one gig a year, then black, otherwise choose a lighter color. Red probably is a good compromise, especially if you put on black hardware. That'll look good.

It'll be BLACK for me ... it just never goes out of style.

When I got my balladeer with the cherryburst finish, I thought she was one of a kind. Nowadays, I'm beginning to get sick and tired of the color ... fortunately, she's got a sweet sound.
