Hello,
First post here. I've been browsing here for quite some time now. This is a very cool site. My story is this:
Browsing the local music-go-round I found an Ovation Preacher. I picked it up, having no idea what the heck it was, and instantly fell in love with it. I've owned countless Fender guitars, but something about this guitar felt "right". The store was asking $399 for it with the case. I had no idea what if it was overpriced or anything. It was in near mint condition, looked, played and sounded great, and it was an American guitar. Long story short, I was very suprised to have made an investment with my purchase. My love for this guitar had me scouring the Internet for an information on these guitars-which led me here. Then, searcing ebay one night, I found a Viper III that was in near-mint condition with an ebony fret board. I knew sooner or later I was going to get another solidbody, so I used the "buy it now" feature and snapped it up. I paid 585.00 for it, a little more than most go for, but sure to go up in value-another investment. Needless to say, the Viper is also a great sounding and unique guitar. I'm excited that I found out about these guitars, and that I'm lucky enough to have two models in such great condition. Much love to Ovation and this site.

Yes you are lucky. It happened because not enought people found out about these guitars from the start and Ovation quit making them. They fell into obscurity and when people do see them, we hear, "I didn't know Ovation made a solidbody". Let them play it and the either love it or act like the guitar is too inferior to their $3000 guitar to even play the Ovation. I need to snatch up some more prestine examples because soon enough people are going to come around and these will be $3000 guitars.

Welcome to the club. By the way Ovation makes accoustics too.

Hey this is my 200th post. How about some loving.

Welcome Ksonix

Don't think the dealers pushed the solid bodys. I too did not know about O solids until viewing OFC posts. Back in my electric only days, I owned Gibson, Gretsch (semi-hollow), and Fender. I wasn't aware of any others and did not look for any. Ouch, was I ever stuck on brand names or what?

stephent28,
I'm just outside of Atlanta. I'd like to continue adding on to my collection, but after the Viper purchase my wife cut me off for a while. I have an acoustic I'm really happy with. It's a Fender dreadnought that sounds very nice and plays great, so I'm not really in the market for another acoustic just yet, but when I am I'll be looking at Ovations.

Welcome ksonix,

You have very nice guitars BTW, and OLJ's statement are so true. I myself didn't know that Ovations made solid body electric guitars until I discovered the OFC. I still have yet to see a solidbody O with my own eyes (and get to play one if the occassion warrants it). To date, the only solid body O's I've seen are limited to photographs.

Again, welcome :)

Is your wife's name Lorena Bobbitt by any chance?

I saw a Preacher in a local (Atlanta) store that was in much worse condition, and price higher. That is a very pretty example. But you've now gotta sneak around and get a Deacon. There's no way around it.

I tell you what, ksonix, I need to get a buzz fixed on my Deacon (it's in my gallery). After I do, we may have to meet up and maybe swap guitars for a few weeks just to try them out. Whatcha say?

Captain,
I think I would go into serious withdrawl and probably loose alot of sleep if I were away from my guitars. I saw checked out your Deacon...very nice. I'm enjoying just playing these guitars, they are so versatile and both feel like a new guitar each time I pick them up. I imagine that they'll hold my interest for quite some time. It's nice to see a fellow Georgian on the board.
