I bought my 1612 about 15 years ago.
How do I tell when it was made, if the serial number is removed...
I've searched this board, and I can tell that it has the volume knob on the top, a "silver" label inside and a five piece neck... |

Location: SoCal | What your describing is a guitar that was built in the 1970's. In the early 80's 1612's went to a 2 piece neck, and with all other Ovations, went to the blue label. Best guess is that it was built between 1972 and 1980. |

Anything else I can look for, that can tell a '72 from an '80 etc.? |

Location: Central Florida | There should be a white label with a six(?) digit serial number a few inches above the silver label and just below the neck block. These have been known to be removed from time to time. If that label is missing, then the exact period in which your guitar was built will remain a mystery. But Mr. Moody is correct, the silver "metallic" labels were in use from around 1971 to near the end of the 70s. |

If there's no label inside the guitar above the silver label, then I think you are S.O.L. |
