I'm the proud new owner of the FD14 #03/50 and wanted to share the feeling when I first touched it with all of you.

It is amazing, it's the best sounding guitar I ever played with.

Dave already said a lot of good things about this guitar, but it's even better than that.

you can add me to the list Dave.

Thanks!

Designzilla: There is still one completely new for sale in France #46/50 but very expensive (2700 Euro) here . No wonder they cannot sell it...

I'm happy I luckyly found someone selling his, not that easy to find.

I am so amazed. When I could buy these guitars no one wanted them now I wish I bought the whole lot.

Congratulations.

It's funny how the chatacteristics of a guitar combine to make it's sound...

If I were to compare each individual component of the FD-14's sound, next to the U681T or the Lowden, it doesn't seem like fair contest.

The FD14 has a darker flatter tone. Indidvidual notes don't have much overtone. It doesn't sustain half as long as the Ute and well the Lowden sustains twice as long as the Ute.

But some how none of that seems to matter once you start to play it. It just comes alive. The haromonics come alive (especially around "D" and all the of individual aspects that don't compare so well are moot.

If I had to live with only one guitar, the FD-14 would be it. Between sound, playabilty, versatility and comfort it's the one guitar I can see myself playing forever. And that's saying something given that the Lowden and Ute are truely fabulous world class guitars.

An OFC member had one available for sale a couple months ago, of course right after I bought my 1674. Timing is everything!

It never gets old...
I enjoy reading the "smile" all the way from France. Most everyone gets to re-live the rush when we read a post like this.

Enjoy your new guitar.

Have a great Holiday.

The FD14 is now at the top of my short list. Someday.......

And Woz is right, when one of us scores a great guitar, the rush is there for all of us.

Tom,
congratulations! I know what you are talking about. I have two favourite guitars: The FD14 and Paul's Deluxe Balladeer.
Paul, here is a FD14 offer in Germany:

FD14

Not a bargain for a used guitar, but it's worth the money!

Karl, it's not my Deluxe Balladeer, it's yours. And when I saw this pictures you posted of it, I knew that a very special guitar had gone to a very special home. I hope you keep it forever.

With the aquiring of the 87 C and the 1773 LXPM, I'm pretty well tapped out right now (there's also the cost of the kitchen remodel and new appliances, and Xmas, etc....). $1400-$1500 is a bit more than I had hoped to spend, but I do believe the FD14 is worth every penny of that.

Yes, I have the same interrogation as you Jerome.
Seems to have a crack from the lower to the upper part of the head (see back and front pic of the head).

I've heard that the FD-14 is one of the best things that they've done in recent years.

They just talk about normal playing marks on the top and .... behind the head.
What kind of style is he playing to have "normal playing" marks behind the head?

I have to say that mine looks brand new.

I'm thinking about changing the black original buttons to pearloid buttons (Dave has pearloid on his).

Any Opinions?

Tom, Jeff, etc.......after you get tired of playing it in standard tuning.....try it with an open E tuning or a double drop D.......but be prepared to hold on to your hats!

Open tunings on the FD14 will just blow you away! Never gave it much thought until Witko mentioned it to me and had me give it a try.

Open tuning was actually the first I tried on the FD14 even before standard tuning...

I'd keep (and do) the ebony buttons on...If I were going to change the style I would find tortoise shell...

I often drop to DADGAD...
The Lowden was made to play in that tuning, I swear...it sounds incredible. I believe I left a similar suggestion on the big Ute thread, shortly after I received it....I think it is a very appealing sound...though I know exactly one song in it...

Which is exactly one more song than he knows in regular tuning.

Where does the 14 come from in FD14?

Thank you - I always assumed it was a 14 fretter - until I bothered to count them the other day. Doh...
