Location: Phoenix AZ | OK, all this FD14 chatter is GREAT. And as posted many times by many members THIS is a truely great guitar and given how rare they are, I for one feel extremely fortunate to have one.
BUT, if you could re-design it what about the FD14 would you improve? Onboard preamp controls? Cutaway? Gloss finish? Fret markers?
Let's here it!

Location: Earth·SolarSystem·LocalInterstellarCloud·Local Bub | I'd make it pure acoustic. Give it a cutaway. I'd put a single thin abalone and real wood rosette and real wood binding to match.
I'd put Waverly 3on plate snakewood machines on it.
I'd keep the finger board plain (maybe a 12fret inlay) and put abalone markers on the bass side edge.
(I'd consider a contour bowl...and maybe a Redwood soundboard option...) |

Location: NJ | I'd take that whole "Austere/FormFollowsFuction"-thing to the next level and do away with the binding completely, and do a top with a rounded edge that "rolls" right into the sides of the bowl (like that Balladeer-prototype that you sold a while ago, Dave). I always liked the simple look of that one . . . |

Is your suggestion about the newer (smaller) headstock asthetic? Or have you another idea in mind?
headstocks can serously add to sustain (and tone), and more massive the headstock, the more sustain it can contribute...
One contributing reason I think the old carved headstock models sound they way they do...
Of course this isn't the only thing....and so many factors contribute to the overall sound of an instrument... |

Yup. I think it's beautiful and modern looking. I doubt if the headstock is going to make that much differnce in the sound. |

unique but minimal F/B inlay
Koa or hardwood binding/purfling
12 fret to body

None standard epaulets - Teardrop or oval
Bass side soundholes only |

Location: 6 String Ranch | I think it should have checkerboard binding and a much larger headstock, something like a 1115 but with only 3 holes on each side. Oh and a Thunderbolt bridge. Now that would be purdy! |
