Sometimes things just fall into place so well I have to wonder...

anyway yesterday or the day before (time runs into itself these days) I talked to Kim about his copy of the Going to the Dogs LP and mentioned that on the message board about ripping it to a CD. Well, Tom from France e mailed me yesterday with scans of the cover and label and mp3's of the music.

I have not listened to all of them but I have to admit that the music is really cool and of course it has both the playing of Charlie and Bill along with Steve.

In an unrelated matter Dave Witco called me (aka tupperware) and we talked about getting the music out to all that are interested. I e mailed Bill and got his permission and thought that we would donate any money we generate to the Fidelco organization. (you can read all about the guide dogs here http://www.fidelco.org/ )

As of this time, Dave does not even know we have permission so we have not yet set a price or how exactly we are going to do this. To start if you are interested send an e mail to Dave@ovationgallery.com with Fildelco CD in the subject line.

more details to follow.

Nice project Al and thanks for getting the ball moving so quickly.

I posted Bill in the other thread to "reserve" one of the original vinyls but I would still like a copy on CD.....plus the money goes to a great cause.

Hey Miles, is that your Preacher on the cover? Tried to zoom in on the pick-ups, then compare it to the pic on your site and in my gallery, and those just don't look like standard Preacher humbuckers to me. I think that's the one you have with Viper p/u's. Maybe Bill can confirm.

...always thought a pix of 3-4 Basset hounds howling and a title of "Howling CATS" would make a "cute" album/CD cover!

Those dogs are the most incredible, calm, gentle, loyal and intelligent creatures ever to walk this earth. Most likely more of a companion than any of us. Worth the money to just send it in with no CD. I'm in. My Brother trains some of the Search & Rescue Dogs and has recommended some of the gentlest and calmest of them to the Seeing Eye program.

Is there any good Acid Rock Shredding on this???

That Preacher definitely has Viper pups and looks like the one Miles now has.

Gotta be the same one; I don't think another exists.

Now there's a gear move I regret. Got this from Bill a few years ago. It quickly moved up in the rotation above the UKII, Viper, Ultra GS (and a few other non-O's). It was my number one until I became infatuated with the technology of the Variax.

You've heard the drill before - one out, one in policy with my (quite wonderful) wife. She doesn't demand it, but I do it to prevent controversy.

I just moved the wrong guitar. I was, and am, very glad that Miles has it. Except that I wish I had it back! Especially now that it's value will increase ten-fold with the re-release of the Dog album, just like the GP with Homme. When Miles decided to sell some of the collection a couple of months ago I went straight to the list with the full intention of getting it back. It's not for sale, of course, because Miles is a much smarter and wiser man than I. I'm afraid there are times when I don't set the bar real high!

Yep, that is indeed mine. Yet another addition to the "great guitars that never got produced" list. I like the sound of the Viper pickups so much more than the Preacher pickups.
By the way, speaking of Ultra GS guitars... I was getting ready to list more parts and just looking to see what I had and noticed I had a near new condition Ultra GS in white, with H-S-S configuration and a Kahler. So for the heckuvit I took some measurements and noticed the Kahler Pro bridge would fit if I changed to the pickguard normally used for the Fulcrum models. The pickguard for the fulcrum models is cut more square by the bridge instead of tapered like the Kahler Flyer. Anyway, took about 30 minutes to swap and about an hour to set it all up and man what a rocker!!!!

Ultra GS

Can absolutely rip any Strat to shreds.

Back on topic, GREAT IDEA on the CD Alpep!!!

Many people are signing up to get whatever copies are available and send the proceeds to the charity. But, there are limited quantities of the album. Is there a link to make a direct $20 contribution?

Better yet, if there are other OFC members that respect this particular charity (and the back story) but don't necessarily need to own the physical album, can we set up a simple mechanism to collect $20 from OFC members and make a larger cumulative contribution on behalf of all of OFC? Just a thought.

Miles - I fully agree about the GS. I have the S/S/H. I never bothered acquiring a strat because the GS does so many things so well in that general tone area. Great guitar.

Hey Al & Dave,

Just wondering if this CD idea is still alive? I know everyone's been gettin' in on the LPs, but if the CD is still an option, I'd prefer that myself... Jus' wundrin'

And guess what! I was in Book Nook today (Atlanta area peeps will know) and breezed over to the used albums and found a Goin' To The Dogs LP for 5 bucks in great condish! It must have been a new arrival since I've been checking there for a few months with no luck. Awesome or what?

I had gone in to look for used CDs of the Robert Johnson/Elmore James variety.
