Another newbie here, confused about fingerboard waxing. Can you do it with the strings on or do you only do it when changing strings?

i oiled my fretbaord and waxed the neck. i realy like the way the neck looks and feels with the wax on it. it has a satin like luster to it...jason

I parsed "Wax" as "Oil" ... waxing the fretboard is probably not the best idea... but, do oil with the strings off as you will crud them up...

Of course you can wax the back of the neck with the strings on. Do not wax the fretboard.
