Everytime I hear songs like "Walkin' in Memphis", I think; "I know you've never been there, you just heard the name!" The reason why it's called the Delta Blues is cuz the people had THE BLUES!! Memphis is still a ghetto. They (realtors) keep "revitalizing" the old neighborhoods. Buy up old houses, then none of the old residents can afford to live there. Just move the poor folks.

Also went to Sun Records which was great, and the magnificent Peabody hotel. Apart from that I have to agree with Arthur, Memphis is a dump. We almost got rolled outside a gas station, fortunately my buddy who grew up a few blocks from Beale St saw it coming and got us out of there fast.

They give you one of those headsets that you start and stop. Also went to the Lorraine Hotel. We found some interesting things to do, but yes, it was a bit of a dump.

The impressive part is not the house itself, but getting a sense of the sheer magnitude of Elvis' career. Tacky? Perhaps, but they left the house exactly as it was in 1977 so you get all that fashionable wierdness of the time. Tacky defines the interior of Elvis's plane. Beale Street is a good place to spend some time ... lots of good music played there. If you like blues. And barbeque.

The many exhibits were interesting. Elvis sure made a lot of music. Beale Street was OK. I'm not really into the blues. Did find a pretty good Country trio. The lead singer sounded a lot like Johnny Cash. They did a lot of the old country songs. Food was great. I do like Nashville better. San Antonio was really great. Stayed on the riverwalk.
