Seems the site now has a limit on the time you have to edit a post (after posting it). Can't go back and delete or change stuff you wrote more than a few hours ago? Has anyone else noticed this?

Probably two hours - I think that's the average time it takes you to realize you've made an ass of yourself.

So its like writing your initials in wet concrete. No next day spellchecks.

I think I remember Miles discussing this and it seems to be a good thing.

Also means you can't go back and delete them. Now I can't reduce my post count back to 5000 so I can have the celebration I would have had, had I noticed.

I wonder if you go back and edit it every 55 minutes or so, can you keep it alive?

Dave... see the "ghost in the machine" thread a little ways down.
Maybe I shouldn't make my topic line so obscure.

Jeff, just assume you did and then you don't have to worry about it. (Not that you worried anyway.)

Miles changed the limit to unlimited to an undisclosed lenth of time.
the reason is that many people were posting then deleting posts and then accusing myself or miles of editing collusion petty thieft arson etc etc etc.
as a result, these folks that feel they want to hit and run the board and then stir up the pot will no longer be able to do that.

I for one, feel it is long overdue.

Ahh... that makes sense.
Though it's to bad it had to come to that.

From what I can tell the window of opportunity to change your post is just a couple of minutes.

I am always surprised at the spelling and grammer errors that I do not catch the first time around.

I had a bad habit of writting in Yoda speech.
But gotten better I have.

I hit the Add Reply twice as you can see in my duplicate posts. When I tried to delete my post, it said I couldn't. Now it says my edit time has expired.

Yeah... But there are people like me, who come back, read what I posted yesterday and say, "What was I thinking? I sound like a total idiot!" and try to edit. Face-saving measure...

Al and Miles, if you say you don't edit or delete posts, I for one believe you. I'm sure the majority of members would agree.

I don't like losing the opportunity to correct myself, which I do A LOT, like Old Man Arthur and others.

This is gonna bump everyone's post count through the roof.

I REALLY don't like this!

So you're letting these 'folks' run the board, then?

sometimes the words we speak or type, whether uplifting or not, can be like all the feathers in a goose down pillow that has been opened and scattered with the breeze. you'll never be able to recapture all of them. at least here, i had been able to edit or delete posts where i probably should have put more thought into them before hitting the add reply button. i've also been able to delete duplicate posts.
i suppose the caveat here is that i will measure my words more carefully in the future. i ain't too worried about spelling. i won my 8th grade spelling bee championship and other than the word, "caveat", i don't use many words that 8th grade and under readers won't recognize. (it's you older codgers i gotta worry about!)

(...now proofreading and measuring my words...hmmm...nothing offensive, unless "older codgers" is too heavy... could capitalize appropriately...nah, no need...all is well...hit reply button now...)

I have to agree with Miles and Al. Allowing people free reign to post what ever they want, and then have the ability for them to delete it after the damage is already done is probably not a good thing. 99.9% of us play nice, but there have been a few instances of abuse. Dave
