Bought a new guitar yesterday -- i couldn't help myself.

--- Bolivian Rosewood top
--- Light weight swamp ash back
--- One piece Maple Neck
--- Poly finish with a clear top and vintage tint back
--- Satin nitro finish on the neck
--- Three ply binding on body (Iveroid with black/white purfling)
--- Chrome hardware including rings and knobs
--- Pau ferro fingerboard with side markers
--- Sea Snail fingerboard markers with surrounding brass rings
--- Vintage Vibe PAF-style Humbucking pickups
--- 3 way LP style pickup switch

Just had to share. Here\'s a clip of it being played by the luthier himself.

The sound is simply amazing, in the right hands of course. I was chatting up some of my jazz guitar mates and, of course, we were talking about archtops. One guy heretically said we should check out Soloway's guitars, but not look at them first, just listen. So he sent around some clips. I was hooked! I went over to Jim's house yesterday, stayed a few hours, played a dozen guitars, and went home with this one.

I have the same old problem however -- too many guitars and too little talent.

What happened to the Solomon you were working on aquiring?

The new one looks pretty sweet also.

Stephen:
This one was half the price and just knocked me off my feet with it's tone. If i had the scratch i'd get both! I sold a couple of guitars and the money was "burning a hole in my pocket" after i heard this guitar. The "loss" of the Solomon pains me, truly. But i doubt it will be around long enough for me to scrounge up another 2K. So as i sat there with Jim yesterday the Solomon was definately in my thoughts as i weighed my options. I will find an archtop down the road. But right now, i am very pleased -- this thing really shimmers. You'd really like the long scale on it :)

I have it tuned to E. But we played a number of them tuned to D and C -- they held up just fine, and sounded marvelous. with the bass adding a whole new dimension. I play a few songs in drop D and it just sings. It's hard to believe how dark and woody the bass is on this guitar. Jim is currently making a custom guitar for a local musician (John Stowell) with the intention of playing dropped 3 semitones.
