Ahh, the dangers of browsing through eBay ;) I've just landed this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=009&sspagename=S...

It's a great price for any Elite here in the UK (let alone a guitar of this quality). Even with the shipping costs included, total cost is only £9 more than the Celebrity 12 I bought 7 years ago (and less than a new Applause 12 without a case!). I'm hoping that top crack is not too serious, but if it is, just parting the guitar out (plus the case) would get me my money back over here  (just kidding). Previously SWMBO had expressed regal disapproval at purchases floated before her (thanks Mitzdawg for understanding), but we've come to a deal here: I get this guitar, and she chooses where we go on holiday this year

So everyone's happy

Now you just have to convince her how nice Connecticut is to visit in mid-May. ;)

You really ought to have the seller send it directly to the factory and have them go over it. Your cost with refurbishing will still be way low.

What a beautiful guitar BTW. It would be hard to get a better sounding 12 string anywhere on the planet!

Well done Hilwalker, what a great buy. Looks very good and I look forward to hear what you have to say about the sound once it arrives and you can tear yorself away from it for a few minutes.

Nice get Hillwalker. It was on my watch list and wish list, but SWMBO gave me a resounding no.

Padraic, If that crack turns out to be worse than it appears I know a couple of local guys who can fix it.

Nice guitar. That crack is nothing. Try the superglue method. I'm concerned that someday I will introduce my wife to one of you as "SWMBO" and then she'll really get pissed.

Hillwalker!

You "act fast in the last 20 seconds" Dog, you!

Congrats! ;)
I'm fishgiven - I should have gotten a lot more serious about that one and paid attention. But I'm glad you got it!

That crack looks like it can easily be filled and buffed ala Cyano glue method.

Good price too!

Nice to see great guitars hitting these shores without the JHS/Kaman 5000% mark-up.

Very nice. I may visit.

Hillwalker:

I have a 1758-4 about the same vintage as the one you just picked up. Just wait until you strum a huge cowboy chord G or E. That top and deep bowl just explode with sound. It's like playing a whole orchestra crammed into a spruce topped, tupperware bowl backed sound canon!

I absolutely agree with John - It WOULD be hard to get a better sounding 12 string anywhere on the planet! Play on ...

Great Deal. I obviously haven't been shopping enough since I got a USO.
Even I could (and probably would) afford that!

Enjoy!

Thanks to all for the good wishes, advice and encouragement. I'm really looking forward to this beauty arriving!

MWoody; I'm sorry to have beaten you at the very last for this. Thank you for your support .

And to all on this side of the Atlantic; here is a great example of the opportunities presented by todays ££/$$ exchange rate.

Schroeder; you are welcome to drop in for a test flight. I may even forgive your comments in another post about my inability (and that of Sting/Knopfler and Paul Templeman) to speak intelligible English :)

I can't wait to try a couple of those Cowboy Chords on this baby. I WILL let you all know how it sounds!

Hillwalker.

Having met Mark Knopfler a number of times and given him a lift in my car, I can assure you (and Schroeder) that he sounds more like a country gent, that a lad from up north, which is of course, where he originally came from.

Well Piers, genteel language? Well, that's how all us lads from up North speak! Anything less than a country gent must be a Kentish (Schroederish? :) ) illusion :p . We can all understand each other after all...

Just ask Paul T...

hee hee
